Well hold on now.

It's not the people for the most part de-evolving.

Let's keep the blame where blame is due.

It's the Corporations and the CEO's of the few that own the Politicians and thus the Country responsible for this.
Except that the average voter will willingly and repeatedly vote people into office, for what that's worth, who actively work to oppose the interests of the voters.

Washington corrupts any morals a person has upon entering, it is a virus that only politicians can get and it infects and takes over within days of taking office.

Watching John Stewart the other day they had a clip about sopa and the people in government talking about it and these people wouldn't know the difference between an email and an IM yet they are deciding technology based bills and they are the intellectual property heads.
I liked their bit on the "I can't coordinate with you in any way!" fiasco. :)
:(

It's ridiculous what the system has devolved into. Unlimited anonymous donations, and massive loopholes to allow collusion.

Look at the FCC , you have people on the board making decisions that are accountants and businessman who don't know a megahertz from the hurtz they get when they fall down :)
Oh I'm sure that they know quite well what they're talking about. They learned everything they need to know from the friendly lobbyists who show up at their doorstep.

Oh, I'm sure the outstanding defenders of truth, justice and the American way, that we have in the so-called "Justice Department", will only use this for the betterment of mankind.

I really hope you're being sarcastic. There are plenty of things that aren't legally "wrong" that most people would really prefer to keep secret. Going through someone's browser history can reveal private information like sexual orientation, health problems, personal relationships, if they are looking for new employment (current employer could fire them if that becomes public), where they bank, etc.

Even if the government used it ONLY for their stated intention the fact that these huge databases of information about us is worrisome. I think everybody on ATOT knows that computer security is not infallible. Somebody is going to break in to one of these databases and get access to this information. The fact that it is being stored guarantees that at some point it will be compromised.

I personally am not worried about the gov, I'm worried about other people getting that info. Regardless of if it would be a hacking attempt or gov employee, there's always the possibility that the information would get out.

Correct, and sadly that is due to the fact that either you agree with what they say or they run you out of town.

Except that the average voter will willingly and repeatedly vote people into office based on promises, rather than performance. The average voter cares about money, not about privacy or principle.

America. Home of the free.

LULZ found!

Indeed, though it isn't quite so lulzy when you live here. I wouldn't laugh too hard either. We like export our foolishness, and you're close to the top of the export list.

When I was living in New York I was almost held at gun point by parks people for kicking the soccer ball around. Lulz was not found then.

It's unreal.

I'm SO glad I don't leave in the states. Their government is become more and more corrupted by the day. This is just absurd.

What sucks is given all internet traffic goes there, everyone loses.

There needs to be a whole new internet, and it needs to be controlled by individuals, not a government. Sadly that wont ever happen. Building a whole new separate infrastructure is not just absurd in terms of cost, but the government would not allow it anyway.

Really what needs to happen to the US government is they need to start 100% from scratch. Throw them all out, start fresh. Then again, the ones with that authority would not want that, so it's never going to happen.

Though, I think SSL is out of date, and was cracked a long time ago but nothing really done about it. Something better needs to replace it. Especially if the government is going to start sniffing credit card numbers.

But the government is just going to arrest the owner for piracy (whether or not there's any indication or proof) and shut down the site. I'm sure sites like that will start being targeted soon.

Sadly, the dictatorship of America will find a way to get us no matter what we try.
