Im sorry, but due to the increaseing complaints from noobies, i have to just post this:

1. Just because you get a EVGA 680i board does not mean you will get super overclocks:

2. ALL cpu's are not made the same, so just because you go out and pick one up at frys, or newegg, does not mean that cpu will oc as well as everyone else who brags about high oc's

3. Memory and Power Supply plays big roles on overclocking as well. Im sorry but if you want to oc, look at decient memory and decient power supplies. We have tons of members that can assist you in picking out a good combo.

4. People have no concept in voltage. Im sorry, because you see a screenie in which you see a 4ghz C2D running at 1.6+ v does not mean you can do the same.

Everytime you increase the voltage on a CPU, you in essense increase the heat load on that processor.

Myth: Tuniq is as good as water so i can push my chip as hard as water on the tuniq:
Truth: NO, good luck getting these temps on a tuniq sorry pal, you just majorly overshotted:

Myth: nVmonitor is accurate so i can go by that on my temp sensor.
Truth: nVmonitor after numerous discussions over on evga forum is in fact accurate! But it measures at the bottom of the CPU near all the resistors. That is why this area gets hot even with water.
GO by coretemp: concensus says it is safe for a load temp to be around 70C. If core temp is reading below 70C on a FULL LOAD, i mean 100% your safe on a C2D.

Myth: a QX6700 or Quad core should put out the same amount of heat. So why cant i just use a tuniq and get a nice 3.6ghz oc?
Truth: A QX or Quad core is 2 C2D's stamped on the same PCB. So how can it generate the same amount of heat when all 4 cores are loaded? These girls need monster cooling.

Myth: TEC aircooling dominates! Monsoon Vigor owns!!
Truth: These guys dont top much better agaisnt a tuniq:

Proof:
http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/showdoc.aspx?i=2921&p=5

The performance lines drawn overlap a tuniq. WOW, thats a great improvement, at the cost of using more electricity then the tuniq. TEC units will draw more electricity then AIR/Water. So dont get in the type:

Unknown variable:
As i have told countless members. I and all of XS Forums has no clue on how the op got 200mhz higher on that cooler. We assume something was limiting him b4 he swaped setups, or, his psu was on the fritz and somehow managed to get a clean source of power temoprary.

Anyhow: look at what happens on XS Forums when you even mention aircooled tecs:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=131378

Please learn about TEC's if your going to use them. The worst mistake you can do is try something half assed without studying.

Lastly: If any of you guys need cooling advice, Anandtech has a WONDERFUL case and cooling section. Thats why its there, for all the case and cooling questions. So please feel free to post there. We have cooling experts in all area's Water, AIR, PASSIVE.

Also: Please use the search feature. Chances are if your having an issue, someone else on this forum had the saem issue, and a thread has already started and is ongoing. Its too much working typing something more then once.

Sorry for the rant, just want to give out a headsup to the noobies in cooling and ocing. Sometimes they just ask questions which would only take 3 sec in google to find out.

if theres more please feel free to post. Some of these questions about cooling in this section is getting out of hand. Its getting very lonely over at case and cooling. And i took a shower i promise!

dude, read the posts, none of them are revived.

Those posts keep poping up, new every week. But i guess its because we have new members signing up and heading straight here. But same problems over and over again, they buy 1 chip, get really slow non ocing ram, then come and complain how they cant get the OC, joe here got.

want me to dig up all the posts just related to QX cooling? :p

how much does a decent complete set cost these days?
factoring 2 waterblocks for the 8800 series, northbridge, and cpu (C2D)

Unfortunately, Core Temp isn't always accurate. It told me my Brisbane was running Core 0 at 4C while Core 1 was 10C. Ambient was probably 22-25C at the time. This was with a Big Typhoon VX + ~110 cfm fan. In fact, there is no reliable way to measure temperatures via software on that machine.

I didn't try TAT, but I have reason to believe it only works on Intel processors. In fact, I just tried it on my Sempron and it complains that I'm running an "invalid processor". It probably would have said the same thing about my X2.

i'm just assuming, but I think the temperatures that AnAndTech uses in the review is the diode temperature. The temperature he is showing is the actual temperature of each individual core.

If you use CoreTemp or Everest ultimate, you will notice that they have 3 temperatures. The Cpu temp, Cpu Core1, then Cpu Core2. The Cpu temp is cooler than the actual cores

Anandtech article for the ultra 120 extreme. e6600 @ 3.73, 43c ......,@ 3.83 ,43c........@3.9, 45c.......@3.96 , 47c

Seems temps are better on air then the photo you gave.

http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/showdoc.aspx?i=2943&p=4

dude your comparing the wrong platforms my friend.

He has a X6800, and the voltage is obviously not set at 1.43

i am running a E6600.

Also the guy above me is correct, There using a direct diode on the CPU, while i am messuring on the CORE. Big difference.

So dont compare my numbers with that post. Do a direct test yourself if you dont know the difference between coretemp and motherboard temp.

If you dont believe me, set your voltage at 1.43V and do a orthos for 7 hours. Thats all i need to say.

Ugh. i'll throw this at you: My IDLE:
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p73/aigomorla/Clipboard01.jpg

Since you like low numbers

umm you mean a complete water loop? or a complete system?

those are kinda different, if you mean water loop, i suggest you pm me. i can point you in the right direction with some questions i can ask you.

I agree with OP on needing good PSU, Some people don't take PSU into account but I learn this a few years back OCing Celerons with a stable PSU you go further. But a decent board+good OCable CPU can indeed go far. Memory depends on what ya OC and which board. If you on 680i don't need to worry, that board has RAM/CPU unlinked. BUt if you go for 965P with say E6300 then yes you need good RAM to go higher that's just due to the limitation of minimum RAM divider of 2 and up on 965. If you use a E4300 then a DDR2 800 will be more than enough unless going for beyond 3.2 OC.

It's not so much that the OP is reviving a dead post, more like starting a long crappy pile of dead posts. I'll credit to the OP for that. The post will be dead in no time.

Good "rant" though. A better approach however would be some sort of helpful GUIDE. Your first few comments giving new members or even current members outlook into what they should be looking for, were degrading.

"Complaints from noobies" would have sent me to another forum to ask questions. Not what Anandtech should be known for.
