I can't get used to Trillian. I've been using AIM for my main chat client for the last seven years, and I can't switch over... don't use Yahoo or MSN too much, either.

Dang.

One of my biggest irritations with it.

I see almost no difference between the interfaces that would make me demand one and scorn the other. The concept is the same, window with chat and a buddy list. What differentiates one client over another? Size, features, logging, ?? All of the ones I have seen have been pretty small. Most of the crap features I dont care about. Why the heck would I need direct connect or file transfers? I have ssh, which will do it fairly securely. Direct connect just sounds like another hair brained scheme to introduce more vulnerabilities. Logging is not a big deal. Most of the conversations I have are not important enough for me to want to keep around.

What sets trillian apart? The fact that I can log into multiple chat servers at the same time. While I would never use it for something like IRC (because there are clients out there that can beat trillian without the limitting interface), but I would consider it for the other services I use. That is why I use Fire.app on my Mac, so I can log into multiple services from the same client and keep it all out of the way.

BitWise rocks so far though.

I think Im done rambling.

I never used the AIM client. I didn't even have an AIM account until I installed Trillian.

I've tried switching from ICQ to Trillian a couple of times, but the Hebrew support sucks.

Yeah, the Hebrew support always screws it up for me.

I got an AIM skin for it (so it didn't look all girly) and decided I liked it. I particularly like being able to say "away" while still talking to someone else.

If I only used AIM I probably wouldn't bother with Trillian either. But since I use AIM, MSN, ICQ, and IRC, Trillian is a godsend.

Bingo. Plus, ICQ, AIM and MSN clients are huge bloatware. I installed MSN 5.0 Wow, look at all the crap. I don't care I have a gig of ram, the clients still suck. Trillian is nice and clean.

I use Trillian b/c I have friends on AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo Messenger. Fewer people use Yahoo messenger these days, it's not 99% AIM, ICQ, and MSN.

Trillian made it MUCH easier to manage my contacts. I'm considering passing up my next game to get the paid version.

Mmm... almost no one uses Yahoo or MSN, but enough do to make it worthwhile.

EDIT: Dang it Paige, at least give me credit for showing you how to get that AIM skin. :p

Yeah, and you should give PAB credit for showing you how to get it! :p
You've got it mixed up. I found the skin. Not PAB. PAB was idly wishing that the trillian icons weren't so, well, gay, and so I set out to find an AIM skin for Trillian. PAB gets credit for the impetus though.

EDIT: Ha! Quoted before you edited. :p
