i just got my psat results back...i'm so stupid. i got verbal 48, math 56, and writing skils 60. omg, how am i going to get into a good school? i'm going to try to get into university of illinois or university of wisconsin, but when they look at this, they're going laugh. how could i be so stupid? i do so bad on these kind of tests...
 
psat? nobody cares about that except for the National Merit people. Don't blow the actual SATs and you'll be fine. If you keep doing poorly, take a test-prep class.

Relax. That's the psat. You have plenty of time to study before the SAT, and that you can take twice if you'd like to improve your score.
 
you might want to lower your standards a little with those scores...

like you might want to look into the Sally Struthers HomeSchool College.

just think some day you could be a tv/vcr repairman that walks dogs and give haircuts, all without leaving the privacy of your basement.


 
my writing skills segment I got 60 soph year (which is odd, because I knew for a fact that I could write better than anyone who got higher than me), and then 62/72 for verbal/math, respectively.

There was a guy who got 23 on math that year. 🙂
 
Get an SAT prep book. Either that or try to get admitted to a community college before you graduate and start taking actual college courses. If you live in WI the school district can be made to pay the tuition and books. That's what I did, and I never had to take an SAT. I then just transfered to a university and never really needed to take an SAT. If you think you'll score poorly, don't take it, there's no law that says you have to take it.
 
Maybe you should stop worry about nothing? It's the PSAT's for fvck's sake. No one except some scholarship people care. Come to think of it, if you're stressing over a bad PSAT result you should skip college, you're gonna die from the stress.
 
i heard that ACT and SAT test different things, is that true? i mean i did pretty decent on PLAN which is prep for ACT but horrible on PSAT, which is prep for SAT.
 
Dude I new someone like you in high-school. He was on my cross-county team, he was a junior and I was a senior. We were in all the same AP classes and good friends. Fourth quarter he had a nervous breakdown stole a car and drove from Chicago to Oklahoma. He was in and out of mental hospitals for the rest of the year and early summer. He's fine now and going to U of I. The lesson is don't stress out about school. The PSAT amounts to jack sh!t. Do your classwork get decent grades and you will get into a fine college. Just chill or you'll have a heart attack before you get a chance to go to college.

but isn't college all about the ACT and SAT scores? i mean, i'm in some honors and one AP class and getting As and Bs but the fact to the matter is still that i sucked on the PSAT.

Don't stress it. The only thing this means is that you have some work to do before you take your SAT's. Or ACT's, I don't really know much about the ACT, though.

If you have the spare money, sign up at the Princeton Review with a PRIVATE TUTOR (it really isn't THAT expensive, and the classes are basically for the kids who need a few hundred more points to qualify for North Southern Virginia State Washing Machine Tech.) Actually, the classes can be real helpful, so maybe take a class. Hell, It sure can't hurt.

That said, invest in the Princeton Review SAT prep book, buy the Barron's SAT book also, read them carefully, do the homework, take the practice tests, buy a book of just practice tests and do those.

I bet that you are smart enough to get your scores up to the 650-700 range. Almost anyone can do that if they put the work into it.



Don't let it get you down. This just means you need to get your ass in gear if you want to goto U of I (great school, I was going to head there if Rice wouldn't take me).

It's the PSAT not the SAT and not the ACT. Maybe you'll end up doing good on those tests you don't know. Also, no, college is NOT all about the SAT and ACT. It's also about the GPA, activities, and also some kissing a$$ for good measure. I know two people that got 25's on their ACT's and got into U of I just because they were about 15% percentile. It don't know if I could have gotten into U of I even though I got a 29 I was about 35% percentile with the GPA. And if you don't get in to U of I you can still get into a good college so don't worry.
