I have a wrtp54g because my brother in law used to use vonage. Bottom line, its freaking terrible. Are there any INEXPENSIVE routers i can get to replace it that would be any good? Also, i would like a stronger signal...right now we have to use an expander (linksys) to get reception in the basement; that is a whole other set of headaches. I wish i could eliminate that altogether.

Anyone? Thanks!

If you're having wireless problems maybe we should address those instead of blaming the hardware? Most times it's not the hardware's fault, but configuration/troubleshooting.

change channels to 1, 6, 11 to see what works best. Make sure the antennas aren't pointed at each other and possible sources of interference (microwave ovens, coredless phones, bluetooth, etc) are either elminated or moved as far as possible from the router and client.

Routers are cheap. They're practically giving them away. ;)

I like the D-Link DIR-655. Not the cheapest, but one of the best IMHO.

If you're going to replace the router, go with either the WRT54GL or the Asus WL-520GU. The Asus has better wireless and both support DDWRT which IMO, turns these into the best SOHO routers for the money you can get.

Well, as they say, you get what you pay for. You can get a $30 router and hope and pray that it works ok or you can get either the WRT54GL (Don't even bother with the WRT54G) or the Asus, flash it with DDWRT and unless the hardware is bad, it'll work perfectly for you for awhile to come. Yes, the ddwrt does have a lot of features, but you don't have to use them. The base code is VERY stable which is why I like it so well. I don't have to worry anymore about my internet not working because of my router.
