It took a few years for 1080p to become the standard. There was a lot of waffling over 720p and 1080i in the early years of HD, with a fair number of cheaper 480p displays as well. Now 1080p has been cemented as proper HD resolution.

Give it some more years. You'll eventually see higher-def displays.

5:4 and 4:3 has always been better for business/productivity stuff anyway, I'd much prefer this over either 16:9 or 16:10 for that kind of work. But widescreen is all the rage these days, so you can't really find many non widescreen LCDs anymore. The only nice thing about widescreen for the mentioned tasks is that you have enough horizontal res to tile two windows side by side to easily copy, refer to another document, etc.

This is a terrible rant. Just terrible. Talking about pixels? WTF, FDK? Look how far you've fallen. I mean just a year ago you were making awesome threads.

I weep for your fall from grace and pray for your return to glory.

Well, you cant always knock 'em out of the park. My silliness has been on the wane ever since I broke my leg. Must be the 10mg of hydro I have to take every few hours. D:

You should have been more mindful of the fact that the Sharp was only 120 Hz. I believe LG will be the next one out with one and it should trounce the Sharp.

I saw 1200p ultrahd tv's years ago, companies trying to get ahead when 1080p was just gaining traction. Clearly they never caught on.

Well yes, but you knew what I meant. And Bluray is just barely starting to get any traction now.

optical media is dying, streaming is the future (as long as ISPs get off their asses and actually upgrade their shitty old network instead of just putting caps on it, cheap bastards).

also, bluray shot itself in the head when they got in bed with Hollywood and their DRM bullshit, it's easier to (on your computer) watch a pirated bluray movie than one you've bought and paid for.
I hope the Blu-ray Disc Association's member's respective bluray divisions go belly up and everybody who had a hand in that clusterfuck gets explosive Diarrhea and dies from the same kind of shit they bestowed upon the world.

on topic: 1080p is good for gaming but bad for productivity, as long as they pass the savings on to the customers I'm not all that bothered.

Some people could claim they have LED TV, however, no such TV exist...
LED displays do exist and are mostly used in stadiums or in billboards, but no TV is manufactured with LED display...All are LCD TV, just some are advertised as LCD, some sre advertised(it is prohibited in UK, as much as I know) LED TV...
LED is just type of backlighting,
LCD should be advertised as CCFL TV...

As a user of 1600x1200 & then 2560x1600, i too hate 1080p.

It respresents a disturbingly crappy lack of advancement.

HD TV in the 50s.
819 glorious lines of resolution, maximum.

Decades later, we finally got there.
Again.
:D

I am more sick of the the letters HD . They print it in bold on everything a person can view, even damn sunglasses.
I was shopping with my sister recently while she was visiting, and she needed something in the cosmetics department. Something there caught my eye: Yes, they even have "HD" lines of makeup.

OMG BUZZWORDS MOAR BUZZWORDS!!!!

Might as well make it 3D HD while they're at it.

An interesting version I've seen recently is that they're capping to get people to stop using streaming video, and go back to watching TV.

The entertainment industry always likes to resist new technology, and sometimes fight tooth and nail. The VCR was supposedly going to put an end to the movie industry forever.
Now they can double dip - sell a movie ticket and sell a home video version later on. Then the special edition. Then the director's cut. Then the special director's cut edition. Then the Fuck You We Want More Money Edition. ;)

I wanna know if HD radio is really just a bunch of BS.

no

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_Radio

although its marketed as HD it was originally intended as Hybrid Digital, not High Definition

just like with HDTV, HD Radio was changed to be broadcast with a digital signal, but unlike TV the analog signal wasn't canceled.

The digital AM signal is capable of near analog FM quality, while the FM digital signals can achieve near CD quality thanks to a ~300kbit/s rate

Well that's fine and dandy, but doesn't an entire system need to be good enough to take advantage of it?

if you can hear a difference between your receiver playing CDs and when it plays FM Radio, then no you do not need an entirely new sound system to benefit from HD Radio
