Mr. Christopher Chen

My address

Dear Christopher:

I am writing to inform you that your application to The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science has been evaluated
and that you have been designated as a 'likely' candidate for admission. As long as you maintain good standing in your senior year,
you can expect to receive favorable word when admission packets are mailed in early April.

The Committee on Admissions was impressed with your achievement and interest in engineering and applied science. You and your family
have every right to be proud of your accomplishments. Given your stated interest in Computer Engineering, Professor Christina Leslie
at cleslie@cs.columbia.edu or Andrew Kosoresow at kos@cs.columbia.edu has graciously volunteered to answer any questions that you
may have about studying in the department.

Congratulations on your success to date. We hope you will be able to join us on campus for an open house event on April 20th to visit
labs and meet with faculty and students.

Sincerely,

Eric J. Furda

Executive Director

P.S. An education at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science can bring you very far; in fact, Mike Massimino,
SEAS '84, is currently on the Space Shuttle Columbia!

Yo,
Good show!

And in preparation for college, in the immortal words of John Belushi:

"My advice to you, is to start drinking heavily."

Not if you're doing engineering.

"so, is an ivy league education worth the tuition? "

I'd say no, but if mom/dad are paying your tuition then who cares.

My school wasn't worth the tuition either, but scholarships paid for all but $2k of it so it's a non-issue.

You do know that schools don't really cost $35k right? The actual cost is below that, but by charging more the kids who can pay the full $35k subsidize the poor folks.

What's up with these "This is to let you know you will get in to our college" letters? Why don't they just wait until the official acceptances are sent out? I know of some other schools that send them out as well -- is this something that all Ivy league schools do? If you do not get a This is to let you know you will get in to our college" letter, does that mean you will get rejected?

LOL... I'm a bit confused as to the point of them. BTW, congrats on getting into Columbia :)
