those who have seen my posts on off topic in particular may have noticed that I am not someone who takes himself or his reputation too seriously. I'm always ready to make a (gross) joke at my expense. and why not? I don't feel I am a pretentious person and I don't wish harm to anybody. it pains me to see how seriously people take themselves and how obsessive they get in flaming one another on the internet. why so serious, man?
sometimes I am just a *little* bit naughty with a point to make and I can hardly believe that people actually take me so seriously. like look at this:
Couldn't you get the irony of this, intelligent people?
what I meant to do was let the topic stew for an hour and then examine the replies and explain (what seemed pretty obvious to me as an intelligent person) that what I was getting at was the double standard we have in the attitude towards the sexes. the title was based on what women say:
"would a man respect me if I slept with him on the first date?"
which is a very valid question. but a man whoever, who actually does manage to sleep on the first date with many women is something admired or enviable, at least to other men. I hoped we would get some interesting and even enlightening discussion on that. I intended to respond after an hour because I knew how the flamers who just didn't get it would begin to feed off each other too much like the lynch mob. as it happens, it didn't even get that far because the thread was locked. I have to say that maybe that was the most enlightened piece of moderating either.
I'm not trying to make out that I am some masterful genius or manipulator, that really wasn't what I was up to at all, but I want to express that I am really disappointed in people who use morals or political correctness like an ape's fists beating on his own chest- to show off and impress other people. you know, people that act as if they just don't get it at all and tell me off as if I am perfectly serious! like:
as if they have the right to be spiteful to me because he's more politically correct than me!! ooga ooga oooga! (sound of primate beating chest fearsomely)
to people's credit, some did seem to realise I might not necessarily be fully serious!
I'm sorry if not everybody understood the irony and were offended, no really I am, it's just that I thought you really should have "got it"! honestly, I didn't mean harm and I thought people would have got the point and the humor!
well sorry anyway!
yours, not taking himself toooo seriously,

For reference, Travis, the topic was locked because of the direction I could see it taking, but not because of your initial post. Many people on here wouldn't have picked up on the irony, and that could have led to a downright flamefest - which we try to avoid.
