completely disassembled a non working WD hard drive. The rare earth magnets in these things are stronger than I thought. Right now I'm trying to think if there's anything cool I can do with the platter....

You should examine the hysteresis loop. I remember getting 2 days of lecture on hard drive magnets in my magnetism/dielectrics class =)

Put one of the magnets on the left side of your nuts and then put the other one on the right side and see how close you can get before the magnetism makes the two clamp together...

reassemble most of it w/o reattaching the platters with screws. Poweron and spin up the drive then tip the platter out (you may have to remove the head for this step). The platter should shoot across the room with a good bit of speed.
