I'm shocked, the Delta is MUCH quieter than I had expected

Hey,

I just picked up a Delta 60mm Fan (42 dB), and well all I have to say is that it's MUCH MUCH quieter than I had expected. When I got it I was expecting significant loud noise, however, it's a lot quieter than I thought. I can also sleep with ease with it running in the PC at the end of my room. Well yeah, just thought I'd share my experience :D

My point exactly.. you cannot get used to it if you are near it all the time..

My Delta annoys some of my friends but I have gotten used to it by now. When I first got it, it did sound like a hair dryer. I guess the fact that I am used to it could be attributed to the fact that I work around guns. ;)

The 30cfm delta is really good. I can barely hear it above my other 3 quiet antec case fans.

Sounds like it's time to get your hearing checked;)

On the overall scale of things my fans weren't that loud, but that pure tone that never wavered was like having an eyelash in my eye. Just drove me crazy! All gone now...

I have a 92mm fan in my case that's about as loud as my delta. I can turn it off and hear the high pitched delta nice and clear.
semi-digression: I actually own two delta fans that aren't loud!:Q

The strangest thing is.. I can indeed be used to the "wind blowing" noise.. but not the humming noise.. :( they actually drive me crazy.
Another thing is.. when i quieten down one thing, I can hear another one. So I quieten down it, then I hear another noise.. :(
Will I ever be satisfied? Well,, the fan on the videocard got to go.. that leaves the PSU... I've already replaced the fan. Now I'm thinking running it at 7V, pad it with some thin rubber washer, and cut off those thick grill thingy, and replace it with proper wire grill. That ought do it. Oh yeah, and the stupid FDD is making small but strange noise.. so it's got to go too. And only after that, i'll be truely able to sleep at night with the computer on. The fan on the heatsink is 80mm quiet fan running at 7V, padded with rubber washer, and it's sooo quiet. :)

There's a slight high-pitched whine with my hairdryer noise, and thats really irritating :|
I'm thinking of putting a small resistor in series with the fan, just do drop the RPM a little bit. Anyone know what resistance to use?
Failing that, I'll strap a rheostat on, and twiddle... How many watts does the delta use? I'll need to get a rheostat that'll handle it without melting...

I have a YS 40CFM at 48dB, and found it somewhat annoying until I spent $1.20 and installed rubber washers between the HS and the Fan. Vibration was significantly reduced and the noise is much more tolerable. Just a thought.

Perhaps I should do something about the 68cfm 80mm delta fan I just ordered for my Swiftech MC462.... but I gotta hear it first :)

LOL....that is evidently NOT the Delta that I have. I have a total of 10 fans in my
case and the Delta is the only one that you hear. It is SOOOOO ANNOYINGGG.
And beside that, it will suck your socks down to your ankles when you sit by it.

I just bought a higher CPU so that I don't need this much cooling (O/C ing from
600mhz. to 1000 mhz), just to get rid of the Delta screamer.

I am gonna have to go get on some socks right now, ankles are cold from the
sucking air. NOT JOKING!!!

Thanks,
Jeff

Take 2 radial fans mount them on top a pile of silver = silverado

Run at 6 V :Q and forget about acoustic diagnosis :D

Now you only have to finde at program that allows low rpm monitering.

My Asus pc probe is no good because the minimum cpu fan threshold is 2200 rpm and the cooler only spins with about 1436 rpm.

Anybody got a link for a util. I can use?

Just thought I would share my "lack of noise problem"

I have to agree, my Delta fan is alot quieter than I expected :) Yea, it has a whine to it but even my parents dont find it that annoying. And the box fans I have in my room are 10x louder :)
