Im seriously concerned about the future of civilian weaponry.

The majority of our current projectile based weapons technology is over 100 years old. Much innovation has been prevented from reaching or taken away (through bureaucratic red tape thats nearly impossible to overcome) from civilians because of either the acts of a few idiots (the mob in the 1930s, gangs and lunatics) or a paranoid government. The majority of citizens responsibly own whats left to freely purchase (without a hassle).

I say it should be not only be easy to purchase fully automatic weapons at Wal Mart if you pass a background check, but all weapons innovation should be shared with civilians. I think one day we may very well produce energy based weapons like phasers with various settings including stun and kill (even emitting a wide beam for disabling multiple targets simultaneously). Extrapolating current laws, prohibitions and general paranoia about innovation reaching civilians, you can bet we may never be allowed to carry this energy based weapon.

If we ever suffer an extra terrestrial invasion we wont even be able to go out with a blaze of glory. :|

Fully automatic weapons are for n00bs. They only work for intimidation purposes, or if you have the bankroll to feed it belts of ammo. Quality>quantity every time.

Isnt the free market great? You are allowed to hold your opinion and plan your purchases accordingly. But those of us who think otherwise basically are simply not allowed to. That is unacceptable.

I guess it depends on how much money the companies bringing it to market are willing to dump into making sure they're legal.
I would certainly expect them to be friendlier for the environment, so there's that angle, at least

There is more improvements to be made in projectile weapon technology. I believe it will be a bit like cars. Old cars are all mechanical, but with the information age you will now find microchips in cars etc. Modern assault rifles will integrate electronics, but crude weapons like the taser will be the start of a different branch of weaponry. Who knows where tasers will lead to?

I just finished building a DIY flamethrower. It basically involves pressure-tested PVC piping, brass fittings meant to withstand the associated pressure and liquid being used, and a butane torch with an extension for the head to act as a pilot light. Dump in your denatured alcohol, pressurize the PVC enclosure, and behold, 20 foot flames.

I think as long as its responsibly used, more power to you. Anyone who wants one should have one.

MW 1, 2 and 3 were some of the best games I ever played. I hated MW4 and never played again. I even had most expansion packs including Pirates Moon. Too bad they had planned obsolesence in mind when they designed those games as they stopped working if you didnt use WIN98.

I liked loading up a small fast mech with as many medium range lasers as possible and letting them have it!

MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries is fun, more so to me than 3 was. Playing it again right now. Love firing Gauss + PPCs

So you don't think there should be a line drawn between what weapons civilians can readily purchase and what is illegal, or you just think the line should be pushed back to include automatic weapons (and flamethrowers and phasers, apparently)?
