The Sybex book i'm reading suggestions 2500/2600 series to routers but after searching Ebay and a few local networking shops I have found that there are quite a few different models in these series of routers/switches.

Can anyone be of more help, I will studying from my basement lab. And budget is tight.

I can get the 2500 series routers for under $20

Cisco 2500 Series

try to pick up a 2511 to act as an access server (helpful when your lab gets bigger) and some 2501 / 2503 routers...the 2503 adds a BRI port for ISDN configuration, though I think they took ISDN off the CCNA.

if you have some extra money to spend, pick up a 2520 to act as a frame relay switch. also, dont forget a few AUI converters and serial cables!

as for switches, look into the 2912 / 2924's.
