I apologize to start another thread about it, but this is more of an rant/sad/cry thread than a deep, logical reflection upon a car.
---optional read---
First off, I'm not what you call a die-hard driver. I just drive from point A to point B without having to rev higher than 3.5k rpm. I'm just a cruiser-type slow ass driver who loves to enjoy the scenery, and I never want to push any car hard so it produces unecessary stresses onto the car, such as reving the engine too high when accelerating, braking too hard, and driving safely. Of course, I do that sometimes with rental cars and my mom's awesome Lexus GS (The GS was just asking for it, it's just a fun, nice, refined lux car).
I'm your usual consumer i guess
doh.
Call me a "pussy driver" all you want, but my 97 Explorer have no problems whatsoever thus far, and I've been good to it, and it's been good to me. ((an Engineering background helps since you know that every movable component is bound to wear out sooner or later, regardless of how well it was designed or what it was designed for))
----------------------
Never has a car invoked so much emotion out of me as did the Sky. Of course there are expensive cars that I can't afford at the moment to drool over, but the Sky is a car that is within my grasp; A hot looking car I can afford. WOW...but!!..
The Sky will be more expensive than the miata, as I take it that the sky will start under 25k (the Solstice @ 20k), whereas the miata will be 23k. I'll be blunt. The miata doesn't look nearly as hot
. I hate it that i'm a superficial person, but sorry, I just admire creative design, that's just me. I'm sorry if you'll hate me for it
When I first saw the sky/solstice, I fell in love with the cars (more love towards the sky though, since the interior looks more refined).
I thought to myself, "Ok, next yr, or next next yr, I want a Sky in the driveway."
I figured it will be the perfect complement the drive around La Jolla, San Diego beaches and the drive to Palm Springs via the California backroads <<namely the 79 and 371 highways>>.
I've always thought an american roadster will be cheaper, and not as performance orientated as the miata.
Well, the 2nd part is right, but it seems that this american roadster-for-everyone will be more expsensive and less refined than the miata
.
I love the looks of the sky/solstice, but sad that their gas mileage and price (after comparing options) will be higher than the miata.
Don't get me wrong, the miata's an awesome car, but the cruiser ability of the solstice/sky is more to my tastes since I rarely drive hard (and the sky looks hotter lol).
So in the end, what should I do? Maybe wait for a 2nd gen, or even a 2008/9 models of the solstice/sky? But i've been aching to cruise around in a nice convertible around la jolla for ages now
.
27k for a car that gets a percieved 20mpg is something that's hard to swallow, especially since there are other cars you can get within this price range (boring, but more practical sedans..)
BUT GODDAMN IT I'M ONLY YOUNG ONCE!!!!
.
Yes just get the miata right? but it doesn't give me that emotional charge that the sky did. I have to admit, design wise, the sky left a lasting impression on me, that's why I just can't let go of it
. Am I the only one?
Cliffs:
I'm a casual easy driver.
I want the sky since it's a damn hot hot hot car. solstice i don't mind either.
Wants to cruise around w/ top down around La Jolla, and California backroads.
But sky has not-so-good gas mileage and priced higher than the miata.
Get the miata then!! but no, the sky gave me some sort of lasting emotional impression that I just can't feel w/ the miata, and given my driving traits, I could really careless for cornering/performance abilities.
Call me superficial all you want, but since when were humans not innately superficial
.
I want the Sky, but give me more good reasons to invest into an awesome looking car.
