Yet I'm using 94MBs of ram.. Wasn't there a user on here that posted a picture of his computer using like 30MBs of ram while running windows 2000? I think it was duroshark.. Only thing he claims to have running was the nvidia control center..
 
Much of that is likely the system cache.

Which is a Good Thing. Caching items in RAM means faster access than accessing the same data from disk. If an application needs some of that memory, the cache manager will free some meory to satisfy the allocation request.
 
don't forget my tip -- disable unecessary services. Like remote desktop, messenger, automatic updates (I use autopatcher), etc, etc.

Remote desktop is incredibly useful. Disabling it won't get you any noticable amount of memory either.

Messenger is disabled by default on XP SP2

Disabling AU is also of dubious value, both from a functional and a performance aspect.

In short, BlackViper is a tool.

Sadly I already did, had I not I probably would have around 128MB of ram being used..

LOL, not quite. The AU service when enabled only runs the actual wuauclt process once (maybe twice?) a day. So you won't see any noticable change in memory usage by disabling this service.

Disabling remote desktop would also have a neglible impact on memory.

If you are really worried about 30-something MB of RAM, you should buy more RAM. 2GB is becoming the norm for new machines these days, and it will probably be 4GB within a year.
 
Make sure you do this for Real and Java (xp users should also do):
"Disable realsced.exe from startup"
You can remove first by disabling the auto-update feature in your Tools- Preferences- Automatic Services- AutoUpdate (In RealPlayer).
search this folder for realsched.exe:
HKLM- Software- Microsoft- Windows- Current Version- SharedDlls' folder. Modify this key to "0". And lastly, open you "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\" delete "realsced.exe"

"disable jusched.exe from startup"
Control Panel - Java Plug In - Update tab - uncheck "Check for Updates Automatically" and be sure to press the "Apply" button before closing the applet

This does free up your RAM. I have a 800mhz/128MB lappy with win2k, if i go to hibernate mode, and then power up again later it was not unusual to get a BSOD (said something about a memory stack dump error... or something like that). With Rambooster running, that rarely happens. It's freeware and easy to remove, so nothing to lose by trying it.

Why do you want RAM to be freed?

Unused RAM is... well, unused. It's not doing you any good. You might as well yank DIMMs out of your machine.

I'm telling you, it's being used by the system cache to speed up your experience with the operating system. If another app needs memory, the cache manager will free it when needed.
