I just oredered a zalman CNPS7000-AlCu a while back and it came today. I installed and im getting basically identical temps to those when i had a ThermalTake Spark 5+

2.4C @ 3.4 stock voltages
Idle 42C
Load 57-59 C

I used my AS3 and put a small dab in the center of my CPU. Then i put the Zalman on top of it and rotated a lil to the left and a lil to the right, this was so i could match the holes up. I got it down and screwed it in like im supposed to. After it was screwed down i wiggled it a little to the left and right again like im supposed to.

Now im running prime95 and getting the temps stated above. How can the awesome zalman fare almost the same as my junky Spark 5+???

what did i do wrong guys? could my Abit IS7-E be lying to me?

That's the way it says to use AS3 for chips w/ big heat spreaders. Did you clean off the HS and the heat spreader on the CPU with alcohol or acetone before adding the AS3? There can be mfg. or skin oils on there that will reduce the efficiency of AS. If not, clean them off and start again. And I think rubbing some AS into the bottom of the HS and the top of the heat spreader couldn't hurt - read about it in the AMD instructions for AS.
. If the AS3 has been sitting on the shelf for several months, did you pull the plunger out of the syringe and mix the goop up with a REALLY clean tool of some sort? The stuff can settle out during storage.
. Did you allow several days for it to bed in? AS says it improves a bit w/ age...
.bh.

Is the comp stable? If so, temps don't matter. It does sorta suck that the shiny new hsf you just splurged on doesn't do much though. Give it some time, maybe the AS needs to burn in.

The raison detre of the Zalman is quiet-cooling. Are you running it in Silent mode or Normal mode?

If you want ulta-low temps get a SLK900 or SP94 with the 110cfm Delta.

True dat. I got the slk900a with a 92mm sunon fan that purrs along without a hitch or a spike in temps!!

If you're using the nipples try just using the backplate and the original screws used to screw in the heatsink mount to the mobo.

if you lost them or don't have them anymore you can use a couple washers to ensure that you don't get that wiggle.
