Your cat is probably enjoying it up there. It'll come down when it gets hungry/thirsty enough.

Im pretty sure that loud thumping noise was the cats bones breaking.

That should work I guess. If he can't for whatever reason, I'll post an add on Craigslist. I should have thought of that earlier.
It's been 2 days, any updates?

Yesterday I tried a little experiment, I hope you don't mind. I posted a Craigslist ad offering $50 cash to the first person who could safely get a cat out of a 35 foot high tree. Then I created a temporary throw away email account.

It's been 24 hours and I've received 18 e-mail replies.

3 were from tree services offering to do it for FREE. The others wanted everything from keeping the cat to the $50 cash.

LOL, you crack me up:)

ok

100 feet, eh?
riiiiiiiiiiight

Actually it's been shown that a cat has a better chance of survival falling from 10 stories than it does from 3. Their rib cage absorbs most of the bounce because it is much more loosely connected to their skeletal structure than ours.

Just followed through with the plan of my Dad using my truck to rent a ladder.

Got a 40 foot one, and got her down. She's doing fine, but has been sleeping a lot...

Oh man, I just saw this thread for the first time and was riveted to it until I finished, haha. I don't mean to laugh but you have to admit it's a little comedic in retrospect. And LOL @ RossMAN's experiment.

Good to hear it worked out. :)

That cats can fall from great heights and not get hurt (or die) is a myth. How could it not be? Unless it has super shock absorbing legs not supported by bone, or extremely long legs that bend to absorb the shock, or is extremely light, or has wings, it's not possible.

Glad to see the cat is OK. I know if it were my cat, I would have taken off work however long it took to get it down, especially with 100 degree heat, risking getting fired. And rented a tall enough ladder somewhere/anywhere the first day. But I realize some people dont get as attached to their pets. Mine was like a family member to me. I cried more when he died than when my grandparents did.

genius...shouldn't be that hard to do....tie a rock to the end of the rope to get it over

Why was this idea ignored? this is by far the best idea and would work so easily.

Hell you could use a bucket w/food in it.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't being clear. That last note you wrote about others wanted everything from keeping the cat... well, THAT part, just read funny.

Less confused? :)

It sucks that it's impossible to get your cat down during some other hours than those you work.

From what I remember from my high school physics class, if cats fall from high enough, they reach terminal velocity, are able to relax a little (lol relax while falling at terminal velocity), and land on their feet. They may be injured, but they may survive the fall. If they don't reach terminal velocity, even if they are "upright" they will still be tense and will be a dead kitty upon impact. Likewise, if they cant straighten themselves out, they're not gonna make it.

How does the cat know it's reached terminal velocity?

Not a clue, other than the cat "feeling" (subconscious maybe) that it isnt accelerating anymore.

i dunno about that, but high speed film has shown that cats swim in the air in order to get their feet pointed toward the ground.
