what are cops going to do, ger a warrant and force anandtech.com to give his ip, then they going to get warranty for his isp with copy of this thread which can easily be someone whos car was vendalize and is makig up the story that it was his sister(just an example i personaly belive this guy story) I am just saying chances that cops will go thru all of this trouble are sleem to none, IMHO

Or they could simply look at the email address in his profile here and the ask the univ if they'd cooperate with the investigation (which would depend on who they talk to....unless there's confidentiality). Then they've pretty easily got a surname and home address to work with. Not too hard.

4. She might hate you for a while (maybe forever) but she needs to pay for what she did. If they decide not to press charges, the least she should be doing is paying for the damages.
5. Score some serious honesty points and some points with your girlfriend.
6. Profit.

If you want a less harsh plan of action, talk to your girlfriend and see what she would have you do since she is in the mindset of a person who was vandalized by your sister. If she takes a hard line, imagine how pissed the people who don't even know your sister will be.

maybe i mis-stated it. my friend KNEW the guy who did this. they were all playing poker and i guess the dipshit said that he knew who vandalized all of the cars, but he wouldnt say. then my friend told me this.

Is your sister 18 yet?... if she's only 17... turn her in... if she's over 18... let her get away with it... it would do enourmous damage to have that conviction on her permanent record.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but most detectives aren't dumb as a post. This thread probably has a lot of little details in it that confirm that it must be true. Once thay know who did it they can then concentrate on *proving* that they did it.
