I'm reading Rage by Stephen King...I can see why he said he never should have published it!

That's one of the Bachman books, isn't it?

I kind of stopped reading King after Desperation; it was just too depressing for me.

But I recently picked up Bag of Bones at the library, and I was almost flabbergasted. While it was a sad book, it didn't bring me down as much as Desperation and some of his older stuff did (one thing I hate about King is his staunch refusal to let any of his better characters actually survive the process of one of his stories). I also just read Hearts in Atlantis, and it was just as good . . . seems like he's writing more mature stuff now, not just the "blood-and-gore-go-for-the-maximum-grossout-and-beat-Clive-Barker" genre.

Rage....

That's the one about the kid(s) who pulled the schoolhouse shootout, right? I REALLY respect King's taste and integrity in pulling that book. I would be outraged if he had been FORCED to, but I think he made a good call doing so on his own.

I read both Desperation and The Regulators, which are written as a two book set, one by King and one by Bachman. While I like his writing as Richard Bachman, I find his Bachman books are alot more morbid and unfeeling. I have not read Rage yet, and from the sounds of it, I probably will not. I get really involved in my books, and anything that involves a child being hurt will upset me for a long time. I think I will just stick to the King books, they are more my speed. ;)

I found "Thinner" to be a good Bachman book. IIRC, not excessively morbid.
