I put in my resignation notice at my contract job, and my last day is (que horror music) Friday the 13th!!!

I've been here since '02 - my wife and I started our small businesses and we're doing well enough now that I don't "need" this job and actually need to get home and work there, to keep things flowing. My wife has been doing it all on her own for over two years!

Plus, I've been going to work, coming home, and working. Having 3 jobs sucks! But now I'm down to 2, plus the odd jobs here and there. Scary tho, I've never been without a "main" job. But I'm looking forward to seeing where we can take our small businesses....

And now I can finally click on half the friggin links you guys post in ATOT, since I can't get to them on base... :p

My friend, the site in your sig looks bad in FF. If that's your business, I just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Yeah we haven't optimized it for anything other than IE, due to time. But I'll be free soon. :p

I was thinking about a total redesign, it still looks too 'homegrown' to me....

Congrats,

Whats your small business?

We have a specialty advertising biz, everything you need your name on, except for TV, radio, and billboards. We also have a travel site, I do some local seminars, and we are huge into business networking....

Just a little more than 48 hours now! w00t!! :D

I do have a lot of work to do at home tho, so it's not like I'm getting a vacation. I did spend a lot of time yesterday and today chopping my coworker's faces onto various internet gems...

Yeah I was! I was going to leave this job here, but business at home has been so busy...I don't think I can afford to keep a full time 'job' these days, and properly take care of the businesses.

I liked the Rackspace training program, that was the avenue I was going to take. I may still do that if I need to return to the corporate world....

And with the growth going on in SA right now, finding customers shouldn't be a problem for my home biz! ;)

Awesome, my wife just threw me a congratulations party! Invited some friends over, just kinda hung out for a while. It really helps the notion of "not going to work anymore" set in...

Nice night in San Antonio, too....no rain today, but muggy.

Anyhow, help me feed my kids, buy some shirts or business products!! :p

congrats man. That too is my dream someday. To leave the work force and have my own business. I hope you are successful, and like has been said, get it optimized for FF soon. Might want to look into affiliate programs as well. Maybe even google adsense giving customers links to complimentary businesses (not competition) and make money of them buying other goods.

Well I added google adsense to my blog, and when we get the site redesigned, I'm hoping to get it optimized for different browsers, and display ads also.

One nice thing about working for yourself, is that we just returned from a TWO WEEK vacation in Florida. We used some business contacts and stayed in Orlando for a few days for free, used my wife's military status and took advantage of the free military admission to the Lowry Park Zoo and Busch Gardens. Lots of fun. Took a long boat ride up the Homosassa and swam with stingrays, etc. But the whole time, we had our laptops with us and were able to work some while we were there. Very nice!

I've spent the past week streamlining our computers here in our home office, I was able to drop two of them and sell off some equipment (to the tune of $6000+, also very nice!). So in the next few months I have some graphics proggy training to do, and then hit the websites if I don't get someone else to do them for me.....going to be busy!

If you did business in Orlando of some sort, expenses become a business Expense

Yup - and since I own a travel website, almost all travel becomes a travel expense, provided I do some business work related to travel while I'm out. Excellent......
