I'm quitting smoking

Good luck, I quit cold turkey in April. Hopefully you want to do it this time, have support from others, and can't afford them anymore.

Good luck. I quit a few years ago and I feel so much better for it.

Just remember, you can NEVER cheat. There can never be "just one cigarette."

Also, quit drinking. It's the most likely to tempt you to smoke.

Good luck, remember that the longer you go the easier it gets. For a while, avoid stuff you associate with it - for me this was alcohol and coffee. Are you using any aids? I agree that you have to really want to quit, but I think the available tools can be a big help to split up the physical and psychological parts of the addiction so that you only have to deal with one at a time.

Every time you get the craving for a cigarette, do something that you loathe. Like jumping onto a rail-type bannister spread-eagled.

You have to WANT to do it.

That's true for sure.

You need to do it for yourself, and nobody else.

I'm sure you've realized by now that one will hurt, so don't do it. If you know you're not going to make it, go immediately to the drug store and pick up a pack of nicotine gum. Anything's better than smoking!

It's a tough battle, so good luck.

I'm a smoker who recently fell off the wagon after almost four smoke-free years. I don't know what I was thinking when I bummed that smoke from a buddy at work. Now I'm back up to almost a pack a day and I need to quit again. :|

Once again, good luck.

I quit so many years ago I don't keep track any longer.

I quit several times prior. Once for over 3 years. But I began again. This time seems to be for keeps.

Two things. Cold turkey is the best method. People who can quit cold turkey usually can stay quit. Secondly, start an excercise program when you quit. It makes all the difference in the world. You'll feel so good from a little excercise and quitting that you'll never want to go back. And excercise will keep off those pounds associated with quitting.

They say after two weeks the physical addiction to nicotine is gone. It's all psychological after that. So just don't pick up that cigarette. It's all in your head after the first two weeks!

You can do it, Oldman!

Good luck!

I don't know... I quit using the 3 step patch and have been free of that particular prison cell for just shy of two years now. I even bought & smoked a pack (though I wouldn't recommend it) in October of last year with no ill effects - if anything, it made me realize how badly they made me and my surroundings smell, how bad they taste, and how addictive they are. I was a hardcore smoker for close to a decade, from 1-2 packs a day depending on my brand, length (mostly 100s, would smoke more if I couldn't find them), and stress level at the time... I think nicotine-containing quitting aids are good, as smoking is a 2-part addiciton. Aids let you deal with only one aspect at a time.

I quit may 25'th 2004 at 4:34 p.m.

I have been using the lozenges since then, I used as many as I needed at first, like one an hour, now I can stretch that out to one every three hours, if I try to go longer I get really stressed and aggressive.

I am normally very low key, laid back guy, I am known for being cool under pressure, but when I have a nic fit I become a different person, the definition of evil wicked mean and nasty, this has a double impact on people as they dont expect that sort of behavior from anyone, but they are taken aback by seeing me behave that way and they get insulted/offended by it.

Niccotine is evil  but smoking is DEATH ON A STICK.

I went out and got patches they worked before to stop the jonesing. but before i quit for a female
I am quitting this time becuase im scaird of dying.
