I'm pretty sure there is an ant colony in my ceiling

So, if I go outside, I can see a big trail of ants climbing up the side of my house and going into the roof. I've tried putting Terro Liquid baits outside on the ground near where the trail is. The next day I saw a few dead ants in the bait but they weren't going for it, so I laid out a few more. A week later, the ants are still going strong.

Today, I've seen a few ants crawling on the walls inside. Any suggestions for other poisons? The don't seem to be too attracted to the Terro Liquid.

Edit: I used to Terro Liquid with great success earlier. I had tiny black ants living in my walls. The ants I'm dealing with now are big brown ants.

Depends on what kind of ants, they have different eating preferences. They also learn, and if some get sick, they'll quit eating it. If you're really unlucky, they're Pharaoh ants. If something happens to a group of them, the colony splits up to protect themselves.

They must have learned. It looks like the poison killed them really fast because there were a handful of dead ants inside the poison container.

You could hire an exterminator. Maybe he/she could get up in attic and try to address the problem.

How big are they? If they're carpenter ants you're getting ass raped. We had them get into a 37ft long hall that connects two double wide trailers. The roof of that hall got partially wet because of a seal damage from the storm. The ants got in and went to town. Total cost was entire roof replacement of the hallway (where they built the colony), wall fumigation, two wall segments getting replaced, entirely new wall and ceiling insulation, and ceiling vents to prevent future moisture problems. Several thousand dollars of damage by those ants.

If they're in your walls/ceilings, rather than trailing in under a front door, be *very* afraid.

PS: Don't let anyone tell you those bastards don't bite. I was taking down one of the roof panels, which collapsed from damage and fell on me, along with THOUSANDS of them (you could hear them walking there were so many) and had to have been at least 20,000 eggs. I looked like I got attacked by a bee swarm :(.

When we had everything apart the first thing we did was vacuum them up, dead or alive, then took that bag immediately to a leaf pile, poured gas on it, and lit them up.
