i picked up a Sony head unit to replace my factory head unit in my '03 protege. i was looking for something with options to hook up my portable music device.
there were more expensive options which let you control your device directly from the head unit, but the kid working in the audio department said that there is no difference in quality compared to hooking it up through the AUX input, which is what this head unit has to offer.
i don't mind the AUX cord hanging about in my car. the head unit also made my car's factory speakers sound better. the HU also has bluetooth so when my shitty phone plan is done and i get a new cell phone with this century's technology, hopefully i can talk hands-free which seems to be the big feature on the head unit.
anyhoo just thought i'd throw that out there.
oh yeah and i'm glad i did the install myself. they wanted $50 at the place and it was quite easy.
