I posted this over at the General Hardware forum as well.

My current setup:

P4 2.53
Gigabyte GA-8SG667
ATI 9800 Pro 128mb
1gb ram 1 512 stick PC2700 generic 1 512 stick 3200 crucial
Enermax 460 watt PSU

What i'm upgrading to:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ or 3000+ Venice Core
ABIT AN8-ULTRA
ATI X800 XL PCI-E (already purchased)
1 stick 512mb PC 3200 Crucial to replace the 512mb generic

I plan on doing some mild overclocking to the CPU but nonthing to extreem. Comments welcome.

Yeah, get a 1GB stick. 1.5GB of RAM tends to be a necessity nowadays. Otherwise, looking good. Not sure about the mobo, but I've heard the passive NB heatsink is pretty well-designed.

well, you can check out the system i put together in my sig, yours will be quite similar.

i'd recommend the A64 3000+ (Venice core). It overclocks on air to 2.5-2.7Ghz, and only cost ~$115 (OEM) on ewiz, which is amazing bang for the buck. you can also get a socket 939 compatable HSF from newegg for really cheap (~$12).

also, check out these motherboards:

- MSI Neo4-f
- Chaintech VNF4 ultra

I have the MSI board and for under $80, its a solid piece of hardware (just make sure to flash the BIOS). I don't know much about the chaintech board, but its an NF4 ultra, also around $80, which sounds like a great bargain.

I love my rig...See sig

MSI neo4-f is fine I love mine

Thanks guys. I'll probably just stick with the Abit. Its stable, quiet and easy to OC for a newbie like myself.

My rig is probably out of your price range, but its worth it, esp when I OCed the cpu to 3.0ghz on water, and soon the video card will be over ultra-extreme speeds 🙂

Looks like a good setup, what about the Epox 9NPA+ mobo? It looks like a good OC'er and probably cheaper too. The best setup would be the DFI nf4 ultra and the venice 3000 (what I have), but with DFI boards you can't cheap out on the ram.
