Well I think the elliptical gives you the most complete cardio workout with the least impact to your joints.

It works lower and upper body at the same time.
Like Power Walking with Handwieghts except you have a scenic view when you Power Walk!

The girl in spandex in front of me at the gym gives me a pretty good scenic view plus motivation! Too bad the damn machines stay in place. 🙂

That's a half hour more exercise than you'd get hanging out at the local Krispy Kreme.

Not true. I tend to lose alot of weight at the local Krispy Kreme. I play snatch and grab with the local police department. I wait until they purchase donuts. Then I grab it and run. I lose alot of weight from the running and dodging of clubs as they eventually catch me and take it back.

Pepper spray is supposedly an excellent appetite suppressant as well from what I understand.... 😛

I'm about 6'1" and weigh 185.
I have a 34 waist, so I don't think my physique is that bad.

Like I said, I want to get rid of the belly, then bulk up with weights.

Me too. Will be on a strict workout program starting mid-July. I'm going to lose 10 pounds by December. I have a goal. 🙂

hey, why not 20 pounds? from what i've read so far, you're more than 20 pounds over your ideal weight, right? 10 pounds is nothing, you can do 20!! if you set a higher goal, then losing 10 pounds should be easier.

Stick with it. The first few month of a new workout regimen are always the hardest, but they're also where you make the most progress. I was getting slaughtered by the local cyclists on rides back in April and now I'm able to ride at or near the front of the group most of the time. 🙂

there's a reason why you're riding at the front of the pack. you're wearing a thong, and maybe the group wants to see your......

I finally went to the gym for the first time in about 2 years yesterday.

Yeah, I could barely do a half hour on the elliptical machine. 🙁

I'm going to keep at it, I obviously know it gets easier, but, man....... I am OUT OF SHAPE!

ellipticals are TOUGH. i can do 1 hour on stairmaster but struggle with 30 minutes on elliptical.

mb it's just me? or mb it's because i'm used to the stairmaster.

i think it varies from person to person, on what kind of machine you get used to. my first time doing cardio on an elliptical machine, i was able to go at it for over an hour. now, i can do hour and half no problem, while maintaining well over 160 heartbeats per minute. i don't do stairmaster, but from what i remember, i really struggled on it. keep at it, and you should get used to elliptical.

what's sad is, i bought an elliptical machine for my home since i loved doing it at the gym. i haven't used it at all since i bought it, and i just end up going to the gym for workouts still.

Pathetic is not trying to get or stay in shape. You will get use to the machine and will see great results is you keep at it. If it were easy then it wouldn't be doing you any good. Keep up the good work!

did someone hack Red Dawn's account? his last few posts, have been nothing but nice replies/suggestions. heh

The toughest machine at my gym is the stair climber. It's the kind with the actual stairs that rotate through the machine, it kicks my ass.

Hehe....zing 😛

Believe me, getting to where I am now fitness-wise was painful. Doing group rides 4x per week where you know you'll be pushed hard enough to almost barf took some willpower, but I knew if I stuck with it I'd eventually be the one dishing out the hurt. 😀

the weather here aint cooperating 🙁 I get #$%^ done when its cold. Hopefully, I'll build up the courage to start working out again.
