Living in a rural area is good, you probably have better opportunities to do outdoor activities and cleaner air. The gym is not necessary, if you're desperate for weights, Walmart even sells olympic plates now.

What do you drink during the day?

I usually drink alot of water (I have one of those big jugs while I'm in class I sip on all day). I drink a liter and a half of water every day at least. Breakfast, I'll usually have a glass of 2% mile.

Dinner, I do enjoy a glass or two of sweet tea. I am southern. If I drink soda, it is Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper :)
Then you have to change your diet, and increase your cardio. As a first step, you should but yourself on a 2000 calorie a day diet for a week, and see if you lose any weight for that week. You should also try to limit your fat intake. Don't eat anything that is higher than 5% fat.

Well, I see that there are a ton of posts here, but I figure I'll add my two cents. Please forgive me if I am asking questions that have already been answered, but I can't read through seven pages of posts, lol.

I'm a pretty big guy myself (almost 6' and currently weigh 253lbs). Now I do have a thick frame (runs on my mom's side of the family), so I am going to be heavy anyway, and frankly, it sounds like you might have a similar build.

I started a diet on January 10th this past year, and in four months I lost 26 pounds (6.5lbs/month). Now here's the thing, I haven't really been working out. I think I just found a 'diet' that works well for me, and I am in no way religious about it; I too have will-power 'issues'.
My point here is that what works for you might not work for me (and vice versa). (But if you want to know what I've been doing, PM me and I'll tell you.)

So what you might want to look into doing is maybe consult a nutritionist (I know that you live in a small town, but you can also find a consultant on the 'net) and find out what they would recommend.

But I will say that the walking is a step in the right direction, but how fast do you walk? I'd recommend picking up the pace a bit. Don't run though, because if your'e gasping for air you're not doing anything good for your body; walk briskly so that you're breathing harder than normal and so that it gets your heart-rate up.
Maybe also talk with a personal trainer too; again you can talk with someone on the net if you can't meet one in your town.

All I can say is good luck and yes, you will get discouraged, but don't give up! If you want some specific info from me, shoot me a PM. ;)

i have read a person can eat generally what they want and will not gain weight if they walk like this
People need to stop saying that. I could run a marathon twice a week and still balloon up. It's simple calories. Ask Fausto, who does tons of cardio, and he'll tell you that he still has to watch what he eats (unless he's doing so damn much that he doesn't have time to eat). Cardio is just burning extra calories. It's not magical like it will prevent your body from putting on fat.

As I said some days ago: you can lose weight. It will take will power though, and before you can climb that obstacle the rest is moot. If you're willing to give it a real response keep a diary, if you must, that tracks the calories in and out. I am a person who has no problem losing weight IF I track what I'm doing. If I don't track calories I consistently overeat, and in vast quantities. I am thin merely because of habitual tracking of what I eat. All fat is is excess food stored. This isn't neurosurgery. The entire marketing blitz for weight loss has failed because it never approaches the single key to this which is will power. With the true will and determination to lose weight you will succeed.

Didn't read whole thread, so...also, I'm no Doctor, so....

Have your Dr check out your Thyroid and general metabolism. My Mother had similar issues(though not as severe) and her problem was a Thyroid not producing enough, thus affecting her overall metabolic rate. With some HRT(Hormone Replacement Therapy) she quickly returned to an acceptable weight for her height.

Today (average day)

2 eggs, 1 piece of toast for breakfast (fried egg sandwich) glass of 2%

Lunch- 1 slice of pizza, 1 glass of tea, a small green salad.

Supper - A plate of homemade fried rice. . .

Snacks today and apple and a bananna. . .

Coming from a guy who lost about 80 pounds...35% of my total weight.

You diet is obviously not healthy at all. You mention about 5 miles a day which is great but you only lose about 100-150 calories a mile depending on your weight. That means you can't even burn that slice of pizza you ate for supper.

Assuming you need 2000 calories a day, I say you cut it down to 1700 then 1500 then if possible 1300 a day. The egg sandwich itself is 500-700 calories at least and the fried rice is probably 1000 calories right there.

If you are going to lose weight, you are going to have to at least cut out the fried stuff and be creative. Egg sandwich? Try eating cereal more often and use skim milk. Slice of pizza? Try buying some french bread with spaghetti sauce and some ham, and skim cheese. Fried rice? Try steam rice with some baked chicken.

Does it require extra time? Yea. Is it hard if you are very social and outgoing? Yea. Is it worth it...HELL YEA.

The way people treat you especially girls is totally night and day. The way they approach you, the way everybody treats you makes a whole world of difference. In one sense, you healthy lifestyle gives you the extra energy to be more social and less timid. You don't realize the differences of just losing weight.

It sucks to have 0 metabolism. It sucks even worse to have a mild (and, to this point, undiagnosed) eating disorder where your taste buds absolutely reject almost every new food you put in your mouth.

I'll admit I didn't read many of the posts here, the hardest step isn't admitting you're overweight, it's getting in the habit of doing the things that work and breaking the habits of what clearly does not work.

at 300 pounds, there's gotta be something you're doing (or not doing) that is causing these results. Sometimes it's not about what you can deal with doing as it is what you can make yourself do. Eat the vegtables. No butter, no salt, no pepper.. straight up vegtables. Keep in mind that fruit, while seemingly healthy, is usually not what you'd expect. Sugars and carbs galore. Ditch the eggs, rice, 2% milk... if you GOTTA have milk, go skim or rice/soy milk. Most people will tell you that going from 2% to this tastes like ass, but a couple months later you get used to it and enjoy it. Finally, start taking what you normally eat and cut it in half. Throw the other half away... put it in the fridge and have the other half be your lunch tomorrow, whatever.

You say you walk 5 miles to work... I'm assuming you walk back, too... maybe when you get home you should start walking an extra 5 miles. The thing is is that your body has gotten used to your lifestyle and your weight has leveled out because of it. Exercise isn't simply doing the same thing day after day, exercise is putting a physical stress on your body with a constantly increasing routine to keep your body challenged. Doing the same thing from day to day, no matter how much work it is, no matter what your diet is, will NOT change a thing. You need a change.

The truth is, based on family history, you are at an INCREDIBLE risk, and you NEED to see a nutritionist/dietetic expert to help you. Their plan for you may sound harsh, but you get used to it. Your insurance may even cover a portion of this, but even still, you need it. Okay, so you feel like you're going to pass out after a few days on Atkins. Did you pass out? No. A few more days and your body would have started adjusting and the weight loss would have started.

If you think you can't afford that... maybe you should take a step into reality and think about it. Are things like Cable TV, computer parts, high speed internet, fancy clothes all that stupid crap that people waste money on REALLY worth more than your health is to you?

There's famous motto that most people seem to have a hard time grasping, although it's painfully easy to understand. Many people seeking to lose weight spend more time thinking about what they can do differently to get by with minimal work. Perhaps you could take a lesson from Nike and "Just do it."

Hope to read through the rest of these posts and hear some good things, but keep in mind that AT is behind you all the way :)
