I'll admit I didn't read many of the posts here, the hardest step isn't admitting you're overweight, it's getting in the habit of doing the things that work and breaking the habits of what clearly does not work.
at 300 pounds, there's gotta be something you're doing (or not doing) that is causing these results. Sometimes it's not about what you can deal with doing as it is what you can make yourself do. Eat the vegtables. No butter, no salt, no pepper.. straight up vegtables. Keep in mind that fruit, while seemingly healthy, is usually not what you'd expect. Sugars and carbs galore. Ditch the eggs, rice, 2% milk... if you GOTTA have milk, go skim or rice/soy milk. Most people will tell you that going from 2% to this tastes like ass, but a couple months later you get used to it and enjoy it. Finally, start taking what you normally eat and cut it in half. Throw the other half away... put it in the fridge and have the other half be your lunch tomorrow, whatever.
You say you walk 5 miles to work... I'm assuming you walk back, too... maybe when you get home you should start walking an extra 5 miles. The thing is is that your body has gotten used to your lifestyle and your weight has leveled out because of it. Exercise isn't simply doing the same thing day after day, exercise is putting a physical stress on your body with a constantly increasing routine to keep your body challenged. Doing the same thing from day to day, no matter how much work it is, no matter what your diet is, will NOT change a thing. You need a change.
The truth is, based on family history, you are at an INCREDIBLE risk, and you NEED to see a nutritionist/dietetic expert to help you. Their plan for you may sound harsh, but you get used to it. Your insurance may even cover a portion of this, but even still, you need it. Okay, so you feel like you're going to pass out after a few days on Atkins. Did you pass out? No. A few more days and your body would have started adjusting and the weight loss would have started.
If you think you can't afford that... maybe you should take a step into reality and think about it. Are things like Cable TV, computer parts, high speed internet, fancy clothes all that stupid crap that people waste money on REALLY worth more than your health is to you?
There's famous motto that most people seem to have a hard time grasping, although it's painfully easy to understand. Many people seeking to lose weight spend more time thinking about what they can do differently to get by with minimal work. Perhaps you could take a lesson from Nike and "Just do it."
Hope to read through the rest of these posts and hear some good things, but keep in mind that AT is behind you all the way
