I'm out of here

Things have gotten extremely busy lately... I have numerous projects to finish up this week, in preparation for the 4-H fair project entry this Saturday, and then I leave for two weeks to go to a summer program at a college, during which I will have internet access but will more likely than not lack any spare time for forum browsing. 😱

Therefore, you will see even less of me than you have recently. Well, that might be a good thing, but we won't go there now. 😉

I may check in again within the next few days, but after that (or maybe after this), it remains to be seen when I'll be back (certainly before the end of the month, though). Just wanted to warn you all so someone doesn't think I dropped off the edge of the planet or something. 😛

The bad news in all this, however, is that I'm not sure if my crunchers can stay online while I'm gone. The problem is not that F@H triggers dialup connections at semi-random intervals, but that once my server (a win2k pro system that is my parents' workstation) dials, it fails to disconnect on its own (even though it's set to disconnect automatically after 10 mins). This would be a royal PITA for my parents, who use the phone more than the computer, so if this can't be resolved, I'll either have to shut off my systems, or temporarily switch to a project that can run without net access for two weeks. Any suggestions? Preferrably with small WUs, needs to be very stable, and capable of running with no user intervention whatsoever. Thanks. 🙂

Well, happy crunching, and will check back later! 😎

DPAD comes to mind as a good "No net access needed" client. It doesn't need to download anything and can be set up to upload results manually and will run forever if you let it. It also has a service install out there and works with HT and can be set for background affinity.

Yea, but DPAD *shivers down spine of 3megs of upload .txt files never went through* as well as the 1kb/s uploads, oh well. Bad, Bad project experience for me.

Yeah, DPAD was fine for a while, then it started to get screwy. I'm afraid something else will have to come around.

<-- thinks its time to go to sleep... I just accidentally ressed up an image in Photoshop (for one of my projects) from 110MB to 1.45GB by changing the DPI to 2000 (it was 4000, so I was trying to res down), but then accidentally adding a 0 onto the height. Dasm, that took a freaking while; maybe I should get some rest. :Q 😉
