I'm old enough damn you

I am sick of having to verify my age when I go to look at a game on Steam. Do they have some where you can put in your DOB and be done with it.

The Steam client just integrates the webpage (store.steampowered.com) and I would assume saves your age as a cookie. I believe whenever you exit Steam, you'll have to reaffirm your age again.

I just go to the drop down for year and select something in the 70s and continue on. Month and day seem pointless.

The only time it saves my age is if I screw up and say I'm 5 years old or something.

I usually pick the first Year available. Usually 1901. It's my little Protest against something that is meaningless and just an annoyance.

i think you should have to give a retinal and fingerprint scan each time you start a game. that data should be sent straight to the game company over the internet, along with a photo taken within the last 24 hours. and if anything goes wrong, like the internet goes down, the game key should be blacklisted and you must buy a whole new game if you want to play it again. its the only way youll stop piracy completely, and our kids will be safe.

I always just choose 1900 because I think it's incredibly stupid to have someone verify their age before viewing something. Of course they're going to say they're old enough because they want to see the page.

i've always wished for a research company to out a study based off web data showing at least 90% of people being born on January 1st.

I once punched in 48, 40, 1789 and it worked. Another website just asked for my age rather then date of birth and I punched in 300 successfully.

Retinal scan isn't good enough. They need to start doing rectal scans.

I just click the year, scroll a couple times, and pick something random.

this is what i do too...
Some websites actually give you a simple "are you over 18" link... that "choose the exact date" BS is just ... well, BS.

Of course they are... but the question is, why have 3 drop boxes where you enter the exact date instead of a simple "yes/no" buttons?

I'm totally with you. A number of sites require that, but of those, I visit Steam the most by far. It's definitely annoying. Sure I can drop down the Year, scroll up a little and quickly pick a number, but it's still annoying.

They need to make it so you actually stay logged in. The forums are the same which makes no sense to me. As soon as you exit, you're logged out. They need to keep you logged in, then if you are logged in, you could verify your age, so it wouldn't require the prompt before viewing the adult content games.

no, it doesn't save anything. lame.

I also select as old as possible to pointlessly protest a ridiculous scheme that no one gives a fuck about.

I just realized most sites with adult content that aren't pay for access don't have any form of age verification. Hell I can go right to Egotastic check out some random b-list celebs boobs and be on my merry way. But Steam, and a bunch of other gaming sites make me prove I have the maturity level to randomly pick a date 18years or later from today.

thats because games are evil vile things that will turn you into a psychopath... porn? meh.

Too much liability. Prove the person currently using the machine is the account owner.

I was just thinking how annoying this is. There's got to be a way for them to autofill this info in when you're viewing these sites within steam.

I always figured if Steam could remember my CC info, they could remember my birthdate. It makes more sense now that I hear it's a law...

If you have kids or grandkids who are honest, like I do, then it's a good thing.

Not everyone on the internet, or all gamers, are 14 year old boys or their equivalent.
