Im not your typical gambler, before I started playing poker seriously I learned the intracacies of the game. I understand pot odds/implied odds etc. And I consider myself to be a very patient person. I play within my bankroll, and have done fairly well. Even after 'retiring' now Im up a couple hundred over the last few months. Not bad, but it could have been a lot better. My biggest problem was after taking a 'bad beat' (yes I know, its sort of a cliche) I would get all riled up and try to win it back fast, thus making real bad decisions. Overall I like my game, I think Im a pretty good player and Im pretty sure I could win more money if I continued playing. But right now Im going to let it go. I am going to uninstall all the poker clients from my computer and hang up the cards for awhile. Instead I will spend my free time doing things that will not offer me a monetary gain, such as rehabbing my knee, playing video games, reading a book, or doing handstands in the living room.

If I want to make money I will restrict myself to only real jobs where I cannot also lose money at the same time.

if you are a good player and patient, you'll understand bad beats and won't go on tilt so easy

I haven't played online for at least 3 months. I am up £££ but decided I didn't want to lose anymore (was hitting a bad stretch). I'd prefer to play in real life, when my mates get back from Uni.

I'm not very good at Poker, as I've not played it much. However, when it comes to Craps, I have horseshoes up my @ss more often than not. (Won big $$ in Vegas last month playing Craps)

word... I quit, up 2 grand or soo... don't really have the patience to go any further. However poker is a lot of fun when you come back to play it again.

the long run is really long. bad stretches sometimes go for months. but dealing with the psychological and emotional side of the game is part of what seperates a decent player from a good player.

The only reason I would play for money is that you can play serious. But you lose too much money in the long run.

When you say "a few hundred", do you mean thousand or literally hundred? If hundred, how can you call that a retirement?

I agree. Although I understand there may be some situations the OP isn't including.

Best of luck in your retirement. Hell...down a few hundred isn't even retireable.

Umm.. I don't think he means that kind of retirement. He is implying retirement the same way a baseball player "retires" from a sport. He's quitting the game.

Excuse my ignorance but isn't all of the online sites just using fake money? If so, who cares if your in the hole or ahead of the game.

age really doesn't have that much to do with it. there are many who are younger than you making 100k+ a year online. But there is never anything wrong with quitting while ahead as the games can only get tougher as time goes on. if you don't enjoy the game, its much better to have a regular job.

Off poker online? I seriously doubt that. You have proof or did you just pull those numbers out of the air? (or your ass)

It is most certainly possible. On New Years Eve on Full Tilt Poker there was a game with a 2500 buy in that paid 517,000 for 1st place!
