Well, tomorrow I'm going to a week long course at Transylvania University here in Lexington to learn Perl and/or Java, web page development, networking, digital media and Linux. I already have a basic understanding of some of this stuff, so this is just to finish off the rough edges and get the "experience" that colleges are looking for so they know I actually understand this stuff.

If I like Linux after learning it during this week of courses, what is a good distribution of it? I've heard high things about Mandrake and RedHat. Which is best and cheapest? Or since Linux is open source, can I just download it?

good luck in your courses, and as for linux yes mandrake is very easy to install/setup and redhat is great as well, and you can download the ISO CD images then burn them rather than buying it retail, only thing you wont have have the paper pack manuals :)

<< You're gonna learn all that in a week? >>

As far as I know its just a brief understanding of the stuff. Maybe a little more than that.
