have "death panels"? Insurance companies deny claims and have to draw the line somewhere, isn't that the same thing people were howling about with proposed hc legislation?

Insurance companies deny claims based on the agreement in the contract.

Anyway, aren't death panels supposed to be about deciding whether an old person should live or die?

If we're going to overhaul healthcare, some of us think the reforms should be better than what we have now. If insurance companies ration care and the government is going to ration care, what have we gained in that regard?

We are worse off because we have to ration MORE due to more people now being covered without increase the supply/infrastructure of medicine.

Yup. While there is an argument to be had that at least with private insurance I can switch providers if I am not happy with the services I am receiving but the bottom line is we will have rationing no matter what. The only question is who gets the final say.

Unfortunately, the government is broke as hell. Not only can it not afford to cover a crapton of additional people, most of whom are either poor or denied insurance from the private sector (read: expensive to cover), but we must significantly decrease what we currently pay out for medicare/medicaid. If you think the rationing private insures are currently doing now is bad just wait till uncle Sam's credit card is denied.

And I am not just picking on entitlement spending. We need to cut spending on just about everything in order to live within our means. Since we won't do that all we can really hope for is that they don't speed up the upcoming train wreck.

Insurance companies deny claims based on what their lawyers say they can get away with.

The proposed "Deayth Panels" was about paying Doctors to counsel families on end of life issues; resuscitation, heroic life prolongation, right to die, quality of life, etc.

Deayth is not a misspelling, it's ridicule!
