hehehe.. was just over at the apple website. I do like macs (I am a PC man though) but all computers are computers. Anyways, if you haven't already seen it, head on over here and watch the G4 monkeyspank the P4.

/me just loves watching that bully get whupped.. :)

I would have wanted to see the G4 up against the XP though. I like how they subtly denied AMD even exists.

note: SMP is not a AMD fanboy, zealot or facsist. SMP does not subscribe to anything and all previous comments are not garaunteed to be true, there is no warantee.

Even though I am a big supporter of apple, I'm realistic. Even though the apple may be faster in certain apps due to the velocity engine and alti vec optimezed code, overall, the megahertz myth is bunk. A 500mhz g4 does not equal a 1000mhz p3.

Theres no true way to compare the two, since the way they work is different and what they do is different.

Yeah yeah Mhz myth... we already know it's there with AMD and Intel. At least compare two processors that are running the same applications on the same OS.

Apple comparing their processor to Intel's is another apples to oranges thing...

We know the MHz Myth exists, but people like Tex still like to roam around these forums and make fun of people in any way because of their knowledge.

Btw Tex, when are you gonna enable your PMs for me, were you getting tired of losing all those arguments lol. ;)

Mac people are stupid............ if they honestly believe those benchmarks arent contrived bullspit, I really dont think they should be using a computer.
Also, why is it that apple seems to always think its ok/fair to benchmark dually's vs single cpus? I see it quite often when looking at macs benchmarks? Why dont they benchmark 2 Athlon MP 1900+, its sure as hell cheaper than a dual g4 800, I wonder who would win that??

Hmm.. I can only spank the monkey at 448 MPH ... :(
but I'm using a ball mouse.. no mouse pad. Oh well. I'll try it when I get home. :)

I like Macs.. I'de get one to add to my lair if I had the monkey.

Everyone fails to realize that its: **Based on a suite of performance tests using Adobe Photoshop 6.0

Big deal, they proved their G4s are optimized for Photoshop. What about other programs/games or even against the latest Athlon chip? Nope, that would prove something entirely different.

Hehehe, ya just once I would like MAC to go up against the p4 and AMD's XP in quake3...just once...no I don't know the outcome, but me guess's its not apple that would win.

aceshardware.com's new workstation article includes a dual g4 800 in benchmarks where it is applicable, and the results are not very pretty for the mac (especially when compared to the dual xp 1600+ box, which smokes).

hehehehee..
At least I can spell and at least I'm not the lifer :p

Hey, Macs only need to be good for photoshop.. trust me. Here at my school we have lots of G4's, like the ones behind me. I like them okay. I use the PC's (that black monitor is from an IBM)...
I go to art school. Believe me, macs only need to be good at photoshop, illustrator, flash, director, quark etc.. etc..
Photoshop does run pretty nice on those G4's btw :)

Personally, I didn't buy a ti book to play games, or use apple to play games.

I use mine to run After Effects, FCP2, and Premiere.
After Effects runs much better on a mac, as does premiere. They don't require as much memory and the mac hardware is more efficent.
I also have an athlon tbird 1.4 that i do video on, and can tell the difference between the two. The mac is simply more efficent at the task i use it for.

Granted, if you plan on playing games, overclocking, and er.... playing games, the AMD/Intel PC is your best choice.

wepofresh said it well.

You use the right tool for the job. Some things are better at one thing, and worse at others.
You don't use Final Cut Pro?

I use AE5 for all my compositing, and fcp2 (final cut pro) to edit and render. (I don't like the capture on fcp2, so i use premiere to capture, and sometimes edit.) I also use Commotion Pro 4 for some graphic work since it allows you more then AE5 does.

I would love to see AMD come in and provide a solution for apple. I believe they said they were able to get a 1.4 ghz AMD chip to run mac OS (not sure which, I would assume OSX) at 1.2 ghz. I forgot where i read that but would love to see a low cost solution for the mac users that would like even more.

Unfortunately, cost has always been an issue and that is why I would never give up either of my AMD rigs. But until PC's match Apple performance in what I do, I won't be giving up Apple either. I just hope someone steps up and offers something because I am tired of hearing apple use the megahertz myth. Behind the scenes you can hear the real message. "we're amazed the g4 that had a theoretical ceiling of 500 mhz is up to 867."

It's time for a new chipset that could truly show the power and flexibility of OSX, and let people have the chance to fight over something sensible, not megahertz.
