I'm not even 30, yet considering a Lexus ES300

Q: What does vi_edit wear while driving his floaty Lexus ES?
A: Depends.

I'm starting my campaign with the wife to let me get a "fun" car before we settle down and have kids. Having 320 days of sun and an average monthly temp of over 75 degrees makes my case a little easier for it.

😎
When you found out you were moving to Phoenix, you even mentioned the Solstice because of all your GM points... 2 years later, and now this? I don't even know you any more!! 🙁 😉

I remember when i got a new 00 TL when i was about 29...

every time we saw one in a parking lot, an older person (my guess would that they were in their 50's) would be getting out the driver's seat...

I was always getting a hard time from my friends about that...but man that car was sweet....

Wow....that got dug up from the past 😛

I'm in IL now. Two weeks ago we had 16" of snow and single digit temperatures. 🙁

Heh. That's why I bought the '05 Frontier instead of the Taco. 😛 My wife and I actually prefer taking the truck over her Highlander. It's just a really comfortable vehicle for a truck. The seats are great and there is very, very minimal road/wind noise...which is not the case for the Toyota.

But, I would prefer a more carlike ride and 50% better gas milage for the long hauls over my truck 🙂

I agree on the ride quality thing between the Taco and the Frontier...I remember test driving both of them and distinctly noticing the difference. There were a number of other things I like better about the Taco though, but I'll leave that to another thread (actually, I think we already had that discussion before in a previous thread). Still, my fiancee and I always take her Civic on road trips...better highway cruiser and MUCH better gas mileage. There is nothing like getting 40mpg on a long trip. Trucks have there use...but driving long distances is not one of them. The ES would be an insane improvement in that area.

My father has an 00' ES. Some observations

Super sensitive gas pedal, makes my foot cramp on long drives
Seats not the greatest, no side boulsters at all.
Very hard to work on, but factory manuals are good. Dang Japanese try to use every square mm of space.
Head room lacking.
Always wants premium to prevent knocking
Transmission blew up at 120k 🙁
28mpg mostly highway

Why not get a new Camry instead? Comfortable and will offer a smooth ride. I think you can get an LE for around $20,000 but it will not have HIDs.

Or you can get a Mazda 3 GT for around $21,000 or so which has HIDs, leather seats and other nice features - it is not as floaty and comfy as the Camry/ES300.

I want leather, I want butt warmers, I want some of the other creature comforts that a higher end vehicle provides. A camry LE does not.

An MZ3 is *anything but* the type of car that I want. I have owned a 3s w/ leather & HID's. It's a fun car. But it's not exactly one that I am overly thrilled about taking on long trips. I know. I drove it almost 4000 miles driving from IL to AZ and back. The seats are not set up for long distances, the road noise is very intruding, and it simply does not provide the space that I desire.

Ok...I'm going to throw something crazy out there...why not a Buick Lucerne. Someone mentioned that you have GM points. My fiancee's parents have one...and it is very comfortable and quiet...I'd say even more comfortable than my fathers Avalon (although not as "techy" in side...the Avalon has a very pleasent cabit). Anyway, just a thought. The ride is unbelievably smooth and quiet...and honestly looks just as good as a ES in my opinion. You'll definitely be putt'n down the fiber in a Buick though.

I'm not 30 yet, and I've got my daily medication I need to take before bedtime...

Other elder oddities for "young folk" that I exhibit traits of include buying a station wagon, house, two cats, coming to terms in appreciating an automatic transmission car (although the station wagon is a MTX), eating Metamucil fiber wafers (mmm apple flavor tastes so good), waking up with a sore back, and talking about retirement, life insurance, and bingo nights.

😱 😱 Oh my.
