I'm not crazy, right? The X-25M G2 80GB supports TRIM

Hi guys,

I keep hearing conflicting reports around the 'net. Some people seem to believe that ONLY the X-25M G2 160GB will support TRIM natively, and the 80GB G2 will be left out in the cold.

As I understood it, all G2 drives (34nm, silver case) will support TRIM with a firmware update + Windows 7. G1 drives (50nm, black case) won't support TRIM.

So is that correct? My 160GB will support TRIM, and so will the 80GB I just ordered?

The only difference I've heard personally is that the 160GB will receive a sequential write (and / or read?) speed boost with the firmware update as well.

Thank you.

All G2 drives, even the Kingston 40GB, either support TRIM or can potentially support TRIM by FW update.

Gotta love poor mis-informed people then. I read that in an Amazon product review, then in a few other places after Googling to make sure my recently purchased 80GB G2 wouldn't end up being a headache.

Thanks guys.

Come on, amazon/newegg reviews are hardly an "authoritative" source. I bet most of the people on here are smarter than that :)

I never rely on just retailer product reviews. After I read the questionable Amazon review, I did a quick Google search just to make sure, and it actually returned a lot of hits with people saying the same thing (160GB G2 supports TRIM, 80GB G2 does not). Of course, there was plenty of information stating (correctly) that both support TRIM, but there was enough mis-information to make me worry for a second.

Probably a case of one person heard it somewhere, and it spread around the 'net.
