🙁 Hello evrybody

I really need help very bad i don't know what to do.

i upgraded my rig a little bit with new heatsink fan to the cpu,500wtt psu and some fans, i had a lil problem removing the old heatsink fan from the cpu the cpu came out with the heatsink(stuck to it) so i said to myself np i continued the upgrade with cleaning it off with rubbing alcohol and so on.. so i booted up the pc and it did nothing the post screen came up but it didn't go back to xp.So now i'm getting nervous i have a 250 gig HD loaded with goodies (maxtor sata).tried rebooting a couple times same problem so i said F it i'll reformat.I loaded up the xp disc it got to where it says hit F6 to install secondary raid driver or whaterver then i got this error message""" An unexpected error(1609826368) occured at line 1768 In d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. i tried to boot to the sata drivers nuthing,i tried installing windows me ,2000 i get NTLDR is missing.I went out bought a new HD put on IDE same thing plus the NTLDR is missing,i don't know what to do i'm stumped.Please i really help ...ty
 
It sounds like your problems arose from something that happened when you installed the new HS/fan.

I hope you used good thermal compound with your new HS, and you applied a very thin coating. Thermal compound is only intended to fill tiny pits and gaps between the chip and the HS. Anything more will actually impede thermal transfer.

If you are sure you did this correctly, try removing and carefully re-inserting you CPU.

hmm well i didn't put that thin a caot i spread it all over the die what do you recommend to remove the old coat i used isophryl alcohol 70% also i used arctil silver
 
Arctic Silver is a good choice. You probably don't have to take the previous coat off. Just thin it way down with your fingertip and use the alcohol to get it off your finger. 🙂
