i thought u were trinidadian.
how do ppl confuse you for a local?

Because I'm racially ambiguous like a lot of people here. It's like you're in Texas and you see a white guy, you just assume he's Texan even though for all you know he's Australian. In Hawaii you see a brown guy you assume he's from here and not a transplant.

I find it strange that you would complain about it being a blue state...

Most of Hawaii's problems are the fact that it is 1500 miles away from everything...

Here's something interesting... total taxes in Hawaii come out to be regressive. http://www.itepnet.org/wp2009/hi_whopays_factsheet.pdf

Taxes in Hawaii are lower than the national average. According to the Tax Foundation, in 2011 Hawaii had its tax freedom day 20th in the nation, ie: noticeably lower than average. http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxfreedomday

Notably, from that chart you will see that the tax burden of the average resident of Hawaii is actually LOWER than that of the average resident of Texas. (this has to do with a lot of things, such as incomes, etc.) Most likely the real reason you are noticing the difference is because you don't own property. Texas has no state income tax, but it has some of the highest property taxes in the entire country. If you own a house, you get screwed by them, if you don't own one you don't even notice. You're just used to being in a state that doesn't tax your specific behavior as much.
