I'm making some coffee.

You never have to ask. You're in the city?
Hang on, I'll be there in 45 minutes. 😀

I do need to pick up some beans today from Whole Foods. Ran out of Sumatra Lintong, which was excellent.

Sure, pour me a cup?

Listen OP, I don't know what kind of crap you're trying to pull here, but posting a coffee thread without pics is completely absurd. Have you seen the way it should be done? Others here have.
You discuss with us the making of coffee, a well loved beverage around the world. Yet you fail to provide any visual detail or confirmation of your actions.

Isn't it late for coffee? I use a kureg, I'm far from picky about coffee, there is no shortage of flavored creamers to make even the most vile cup of joe taste just fine.

never too late for coffee. 🙂

almost 5pm, time to grind up some beans with my handheld hario and do a pour-over.

I am a coffee snob and I will drink Eight O'Clock any time its offered. For cheap coffee, they do a great job. I'll take it over Starbucks or gas station "premium" coffee.

I was a little upset because the price went up by a couple dollars not too long ago. But then again its still half the price of most of the coffee I drink.

Publix had a BOGO last week on Eight O'clock, I bought whole bean and ground just before brewing, granted that would be a PITA at 6:00 AM but I'll have to say it was the best-tasting coffee I've had for quite awhile. I think the fresh-grinding helps a lot with the flavor.

Being a coffee snob, but drinking your coffee with cream, sugar, a shot of vanilla, or anything else but black is like being a whiskey snob and only drinking whiskey sours.

When I grew up on the East coast, Eight O'Clock, Red Circle, and Bokar (sp?) were the A&P house brands.

Mentioning Eight O'Clock brings back childhood memories of old A&Ps that had a manual grinder next to their Eight O'Clock in bulk bins, and watching adults use it.

<-------- Antithesis of any sort of coffee snob.

Eight O'Clock is excellent value coffee. For usually around $6 a lb, it's really not bad.

Eww, that kind of looks like dishwater, coffee that weak I cannot stand.

Lol. It's stronger than it looks. Ethiopia duromina light roast. Most other coffee I brew comes out way darker using the same quantity of fresh grounds.

If all you can taste is "bitter" it's not good coffee, though.

Never heard of it, "Ethiopia duromina" sounds like an exotic virus but if you find it tasty then by all means enjoy.

I thought the same. That's one good thing about tea. It has a wide range of strengths where it tastes acceptable, if not optimal.

Not for black tea. Strong black tea is too tannin-rich. It always gives me an upset stomach. Oolong also, to a lesser degree. Green tea is more forgiving, and white tea even more so.

Tea flavor is as sensitive (if not more so) to temperature, brew time, and quantity of leaves/grounds used than coffee.

I'm kind of the same way. I can drink one cup of very strong tea, but more than that upsets my stomach.
