I'm lost with my upgrades!

I'm doing a cpu, motherboard, ram upgrade. Can someone enligthen my memory knowledge? What fsb does DDR2100, 2700 etc. translate to?

I currently use PC133 with XP cpu. I know I have to set my fsb to 266 since the ram rate is doubled and it's the only way to get the full clock speed of my cpu.

Do all XP cpu support DDR3200? DDR3200 is supposed to be 400 fsb? Then that means the cpu must be capable of 400 fsb?

I'm really lost.

pc2100 = 133 mhz = 266 DDR
pc2700 = 166 mhz = 333 DDR
pc3200 = 200 mhz = 400 DDR
pc3500 = 216 mhz = 433 DDR
pc3700 = 233 mhz = 466 DDR
pc4000 = 250 mhz = 500 DDR
pc4200 = 267 mhz = 533 DDR

most XPs are DDR266 / PC2100 or DDR333 / PC2700. if you buy from a good company like newegg the product listing will tell you the fsb. Be careful, some speeds are available in both 266 and 333 versions.

the A64 3200+ uses DDR 400 / PC3200.

P4 800 fsb ("C" chips) use 2 sticks of DDR 400 / PC 3200.

p4 800 fsb do not necessarily use 2 sticks, they are quad-pumped

I was trying to keep it simple.

I know you can run 800 fsb in single-channel mode with just 1 stick, but if you're going to cripple perfromance why buy a "C" chip at all?

So XP cpu run at 333 MHz fsb, then there's no point in me getting DDR400 unless I care to overclock the fsb to 400 MHz?

Exactly. And if you get one running at 266 fsb (like a 2400+) then you only need cheap DDR266 / PC2100.
