Sorry, Bill! Homey don't wanna play, but...

First of all, what does ReadyBoot (boot-time prefetching) have to do with anything? We're talking about ReadyBoost (run-time disk caching)?

Secondly, I didn't realize that was a question... it sounded more like a demand. 😀

More likely Vista finished indexing your system so things stablized. But its simple to tell, post your latest event 1015 stats from the readyboost [sic] event log...

What a surprise, you failed to answer the question. Again, why dont you post your event log information, we can see how much less your drive is chugging...

I have xp64 and a pretty bad time with the lack of software and, most specifically, of drivers in the market for it.

For video, at least last time I checked, Plextor's capture modules had no drivers for Vista 64.
For music, the whole M-Audio line and many other usb/devices devices don't have drivers.
Norton has no suite for xp64.

And so on.

EDIT: but I have to say that most companies, except Plextor, are working hard on those.

The 8 GB + 4 GB Readyboost was sarcasm.

4 GB is fine for the majority of Vista users, & for the OP i'm sure.
If he wants a boost, adding more RAM would be his best bet.

I love the concept of Readyboost, but i would always prioritize buying more RAM, then Readyboost if so desired.

For me the big deal is cost. I spend a sh!t load pimping out my computer as a whole, but only got 2gigs. I'd like to get more, but its going to cost me something like $120-150 for the ram I need (FB-DIMMS). Where as I just bought a 4gig flash drive for $30. It will help speed things up for a few months till I can justify the extra cost of 2more gigs, and then after it will possibly continue to help boost performance, or I could just use it as storage.

...would i really need the minimal performance given by an extra 4gb readyboost stick?

When you start using Windows Vista, the first thing you'll notice is your HD going crazy!

In the vernacular, this is called "disk grinding"... and it will drive YOU crazy!

"Minimal performance" gains aside, one of the ancillary benefits of running ReadyBoost is it will quiet down your drives, so...

Yes, IMHO, you really need the extra 4 GB ReadyBoost card! 😉

"Thrashing" is a more popular slang term among IT folk from what I've seen.

So on my MBP the memory is maxed out at 4GB and I'm running x86 Vista HP. Would I observe a performance boost if I switched to x64? And how does x64 treat non-64bit applications? Is there a compatibility layer?
