Im looking to be getting a 2 soft boxes for indoor and outdoor shoots, i have never dealt with these before but they seem like the next step

Where should I start and what should be a low end budget for something of this sort?

Thanks,
Alfa

Well then check out alienbees. Relatively inexpensive, and good stuff. I have 3 of their strobes and a softbox, some umbrellas, etc.

I am going to be switching to Alienbees. I went with Calumet Genesis strobes. I think they take elinchrom accessories and speedrings. The Genesis have a higher output 200 vs. 160 and 400 vs 320. But the reflector dish sucks, and the modeling lamp makes it impossible to use grids, etc..
A shame, because the Genesis has a nice quality to them.
I'm selling them, and going either with Alienbees or White Lightnings (WL's are the pro orientated strobes from Paul C Buff, the same maker of AB's).
So, +1 for Alien Bees.

Identify needs and budget. What are you planning on using the soltboxes for? Why do you need 2? What are you planning on doing?

Hi,

Sorry if this is a threadjack. I don't think it is. I am looking for a softbox so I cant take product pictures. Not for ebay or anything, just for myself. Also food pictures. This would be indoors, in my home so I don't have to worry too much about portability or have any time restraints so I don't necessarily need fast setup or teardown. I just want something affordable that works and can stow away. Can anyone recommend specific Alienbees product(s) to use?

Edit: I want to take macro shots too. That'd be nice.
