I'm looking for more games to play.

I have a desktop now that can play somewhat modern games. I am going to do some more upgrades over the rest of the year, but I have some questions about modern gaming in general.

I like adventure games, so what do you recommend?

I have a very low bandwidth per month cap since I am using Verizon wireless as my broadband provider. Having said this I have a laptop that I could download games off the Internet and transfer them to my desktop if that were possible? Is it possible to do this without doing something I shouldn't? Is there any service out there that I could do it with? My laptop is a few years old and I can't run hardly any games on it. So I would have to download the games from a WIFI hotspot and transfer them.
So far I just buy the disks and install them that way. Which is the way I learned to buy games, but i was wondering if there was a better way? I live in the middle of nowhere and besides ordering games with disks off the Internet, I don't really have access to stores with a lot of PC-Games.

Hope I am not asking something I am not supposed to.

Also games I like and would want to play something similar to, but am unsure where to start looking. So I am asking for advice on what types of games I should try?

First off, I have Mass Effect 2 and love it. So I would be interested in more games like this. Know any?
Tomb Raider: Anniversary Also earlier versions are good.
Need For Speed:Carbon

I don't like RTS games.

I bought Fallout 3 today, and just got STALKER SOC about 2 months ago, but haven't played them yet. So I don't know how they will be.

I kinda like UT3.

I don't mind dl add on content for games, or patches, but dl games from home is undo-able.

System specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 550 (one extra core unlocked, so 3 cores)

ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO

2 GB ram 1333 )will upgrade to 4 or 6 GB in the next couple months.

XTX 4670 1GB Will upgrade probably at the end of the year.

WD IDE 7200 rpm 320 GB drive

LiteON DVD SATA (haven't got this yet will be in the next couple days)

Thank you for helping me in advance. I never was a hard core gamer, but have a lot of free time on my hands these days.

Thanks, I used to have The Longest Journey. I like the game a lot. I loaned it to someone and will have to see if I can get it back. i think they still have it.

I will go ahead and get Mass Effect 1

I was in bestbuy today and got the fallout 3 regular version for 19.99. I remember reading a bunch of posts here on AT in the past about it and thought I would try it.

Same with STALKER SOC. Someone mentioned in an older thread to try the 2010 mod. I think I am going to play it first without it. I already have the latest patch for it and have downloaded the mod.

Thanks for mentioning a few more games.

I used to have a couple more old games, but loaned them out, and was told they were lost. 🙁

I don't know how many of the new titles I can play with my current rig.

Check out GoG and Steam. You can get some really great games for cheap. Since you like adventure games, give Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please! off of Steam for 5 bucks. They are adventure games for the adventure game purists, and funny as hell.

Vampire Bloodlines is a few years old, but I really liked that one. Make sure to patch it.

Look into the Sam & Max series. The first two seasons are available in box set or download.

Black Mirror II and The Whispered World are two newish adventures that are not bad. Both are point'n'click adventures. One word of warning, the protagonist in The Whispered World could be said to have an annoying voice.

Also, if you get games of Steam it is very easy to transfer them from your laptop to a desktop.

Just install Steam on the laptop. Download the games and then you can transfer the Steam folder to your desktop. Make sure to turn off auto-update in steam on your desktop since by default it will automatically download updates and you could go over your internet cap with a few large game updates.

I already have Oblivion, but I'm tempted to get Morrowind. Is it still worth playing in spite of its age?

Yes. The character models are pretty ugly but there is still tons of good game play. It does a lot less "hand holding" compared to oblivion.

There are a lot of games. If you are playing them Single Player try;

Half Life series. Batman AA is on sale on Steam. Dragon Age. NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer is pretty fun and immersive. NWN2 Storms of Zehir (which I own only for online) is supposed to have a cool world that you build your character in and dont have to follow a storyline. X2 and X3 have tons of mods and a large community. Portal. Mass Effect 2 is supposed to be great, so I wont list other older games I have played and that are already mentioned.

Yeah I actually downloaded Oblivian using my desktop. Went of cap lol and still have like 2 weeks to go before it resets.

Thanks for all the information about games I might like. I am going to keep looking at the recommendations and see if I can get some of them.
