What did you upgrade from/to? There have been no decent RTS games relesed for a few years, the genre is pretty much dead. Wait for C&C3.

New, 'must have' games, in other genres are (IMO) Oblivion, FEAR, and Civ IV.

x1900xt from 6800gt

Is that a huge upgrade? That's AGP -----> PCIe, right?

I'd say its also about a 2.5x increase in performance too. I went from a 6800GT AGP to a 1900XT when I built my new system.

I've played quite a few (new RTS's), and I still think WC3:The Frozen Throne and Starcraft:BW are the best RTS's in the market. However, Rome:Total War was pretty sweet.

Ill check out DOW and BF2

Edit

So what does the expansion of DOW have? better graphics or just another faction and/or campaign?

don't get bf2, you'll just waste money because its a horrible game, plus you'll have to spend another $30-40 to get all the stupid little expansions.

winter assault technically adds 1 new faction (i think, been awhile since i played it). It also lets you play as some of the other minor factions that weren't really playable in the original game.

Plus Winter Assault is far more popular online, although the community isn't very newbie friendly and you must prepare to have your ass thoroughly kicked for your first dozen or more games.

Well since pontifex says BF2 sucks in every BF2 thread he must be right. And besides, once you purchase BF2 you are FORCED into buying all the stupid little expansions. Man EA is so friggin' lame.

/sarcasm

Just get the BF2 demo to see if you like it before buying. I think its a very fun game and so do many others.

C&C3 will be the next big modern RTS game. Recent ones have been... meh.. worth playing! but not up to C&C/starcraft standards.

I disagree. Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes will be the next big RTS games.

Exactly. Particularly Supreme Comander.

Medieval 2: Total War is also looking sweet. But I agree, right now Supreme Commander is looking outstanding.

I kind of put the Total War games in a whole different category. I don't think of them as RTS's. More like RTT's (Real Time Tactical).

That being said, Rome: Total war is one of my top five favorite games of all time, and I am looking forward to Medevil: Total War 2.

As already has been mentioned, DoW is pretty good. I also liked Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends. It's nothing revolutionary, but it was fun to play. Pick it up if you find it for a good deal.

I love Rome Total War and the expantions. You can skip the Alexander expansion though.

Rise of Nations, Warcraft 3, etc.

I'll even go as far to say that C&C Generals was good (made by EA). At least I liked it.

Rise of nations started out fun but after a while it's just pretty much a race to the big guns... I just started playing DoW and so far I'm really liking it.
