Im looking for a couch!

Leather cleans up more easily and if you buy a good one, it'll hold up a lot better. We've had the same leather couch in our family room for ~15 years and it still looks great.

My family has a very nice italian set thats lasted a good 15 years and lasting through 4 kids growing up, it still feels better then basically any set you can find under 1500. These cost a lot though, so you might not want to do that way. The bad side to leather is that it does get sticky when you're naked and in the summer. In the winter, it gets cold, but its not that bad since you shouldn't be walking around naked when its cold anyway.

Its easier to clean, but after laying on it for a while, I find it gets too warm. I'd get cloth unless you're willing to spend a lot on a good set.

Leather unless you don't like the style(s). And don't even consider the fake stuff (vinyl, etc)... that's bad... if you can't afford a good leather set then just buy a fabric set.

This hasn't been mentioned yet.

Depending on how many extra bedrooms you have, you may want to look into getting a sleeper-sofa. The kind w/the fold-out bed. No, it's not all that comfy, but it's great for a night or two. With a sleeper, you instantly add a "bedoom" to your house/apt.

I agree with the "kids, no leather!" comment. They'll poke holes in it and you will kill them and go to jail. Children are evil...like cats. Anyway, if you do get fabric, make sure to buy a can of Scotchguard and treat it. Worth the expense and trouble the first time you spill something on it. :Q

We've only looked at couches at ikea so far, and the sleeper there is kinda weird 😛.

No kids! please none for at least 4 more years.
