I'm leaving the team

The Magicman

Senior member
Hi guys.

Team Anandtech is now to far away from how it was like when I joined (during the fist wild days of the team).
I've decided to leave the team.

I'll transfer the RC5 (ZF and I cracked under the same ID) account to zf as soon as I can find some time.
I'll stop doing Gamma Flux blocks for team anandTech but I'll do a few GF blocks a day for team #0.

Sorry guys, but that mini team sh*t and the slow but noticable change in the style of the postings in this forum have caused a drastical decrease of my intrest in distributed computing.

I'll sell the the parts of THE crackrack (the original) which is hereby officially declared dead.

🙁

Sorry to hear that you've decided to leave. You've been a great contributor to the team, both in keyrate and support. I agree the postings have changed, but amongst it all there still are people asking for help and getting it, people needing support and getting it.

New members coming into the forum are bound to change the flavor over time. It's one of life's constants, change. :Q

If there is no way we can change your mind, (I'm good at shameless begging 😉) then best wishes to you in whatever endeavors you undertake!

Take care,
Ray

No, it was not a person but more the tendency to ... mhhh, I can't explain it ...
I'm just not fealing myself at home here anymore.

MagicMan,

You will be missed. You were an old timer when I was still a newbie. =)

Keep in touch, you will have friends here no matter what your affiliation with the team is.

Jay

WTF, you are going to blame the reason you are leaving on miniteams??? Why the hell did you guys not tell us this 4 months ago? I find it pretty piss poor that you expected miniteams to disappear rather than imporove/grow as time went on. You could have easily told me and sys, and chris and ss that you disliked miniteams. What I truly don't understand is that a miniteam is hardly any different than growing your own herd. The only main difference is that now instead of assiilating offices, you are assimilating other members.

I would have quit rc5 months ago if I did not belong to TWTA. Of course, my puny keyrate is laughable while yours is near godlike.

I know exactly what Magicman is talking about. Tis why I'm leaving as soon as Casino 21 starts.

[Edit: haha! i kan spel!]

It's your choice MagicMan... 🙁
I'm sad to see you leaving the team.

Yes, the distributed forum has evolved...
Yes, the team spirit is not the same as what it was at the beginning. It's not bad, I think, but just different. 😉 A little more reactive...
Yes, we are spread into different projects.

Yes, you will be missed.

Auf wiedersehen MagicMan !
Come here sometimes to see your old friends. I think I can tell that you're always welcome !

I wish you good luck in whatever you've decided to do ! 🙂
Take care.

Magicman, I remember how it used to be. There were many more technical discussions, building of hardware, working out problems with firewalls, building WarpCore, etc.. Since then, we've built a network of FAQs that seem to answer all the old technical questions and the DNet clients seem to work a little easier (still not quite like the old GUI client).

Sorry to see you go. 🙁

I originally signed up because I really like AnandTech. The forums have changed, as The Magicman has said, quite a bit... and not necessarily for the better. Based on this and other things, I'm afraid I'm also going to have to make an annoucement.

I'm staying!

I signed up for the team that represents AnandTech. For me that is a mixture of apprecaition to Anand and a common bond with other TA members. Times aren't always exciting and things aren't always the we we with they would be, but that really is true with all of life, isn't it?

The Magicman, I have a personal request. When you were on RC5, you and I were battling it out for the top (well....under JonB and Mander) on Mika's... why not aim your machines back at RC5 just until we pass /. You will have stuck with the team all the way to our stated goal in the beginning, and you will be part of the success that you contributed soooooo much to. It's probably only a couple of months. After that, whatever.... but would you consider going out with the bang and then retiring gracefully? At least give it a little consideration. Besides... we need more competition at the top on Mika's!

With Respect and Admiration,

Joe

As the days turn into years, it is indeed hard to sustain focus and fun.

I'll add an empty beer bottle with your name on it to the TA Hall of Fame plaque over the hot tub in your honor.

The hot tub and the babes will miss you.

Of course, you could always change your mind 🙂

I joined Team Anandtech after reading about THE crackrack.

:| About the PhF and the miniteams.
🙁 About this (and Randall).

Magicman,

I'm really sorry that you are leaving the team...We did not create the mini-teams to drive people off, but as a way to built upon the success that we (the original 4 of the Federation) had as individual racers and it has been more motivation for me than any other aspect....

The mini-team posting and joshing each other has dropped off since the last mini-team uprising. There has been more (much more) of an effort to head off the DPC than any other mission...As far as I can tell...

You will be sadly missed.....As you already know, you are always welcome "Home"...

The Magicman
sorry to see you go also 🙁 you will be missed by many
I also agree with you and respect your decision and wish you well.

Thomas(originator of the term Crack-Rack): I am very sorry to see you leave the team. You have been a part of Team AnandTech in one of the distributed computing efforts since I began visiting these forums. The contributions you made to this team in both input in the forums and in blocks is valued greatly.

You will be very much missed. 🙁 Please keep in touch.

Mika

Magicman, what can I say; as it's allways sad to lose a member, losing a long time member like you is especially difficult. While I do respect your descision to leave, I have to agree with Joe on you staying a bit longer. You've been around for what seems like ages(we must be at least at 11 in dog years😉), so you're one of the people that the fall of /. will mean the most to. And while this placed has changed(arguably for the worst), we still have things to do, people to assimilate, and teams to humiliate.😉 Please, at least stick around and help us see the falling of /., it's one of those once in a lifetime opertunities.😱

PS PF, you dissapoint me greatly, but I will save that conversation for anther time...

PF,

I understnand your frustration at a lot of people blaming Mini-Teams as the root cause of the team. That is not the problem. But try and not be too defensive as sometimes your message comes across the wrong way.

Virge,

Although I respect your contribution to the team, please do not chastise a member in the forums. Negative responses to negative responses causes the things we are trying to avoid, more bickering.

Everyone else,

I think this thread points to some of the changes that MagicMan was alluding to. THere is too much internal squabiling between everyone. I've been guilty of it as much as everyone else. We need to stop pointing the fingers at other people and look to ourselves to try and figure out what we can do to help the situation.

Honestly, if this continues, I won't be far behind MagicMan.

Jay =(

Magicman, your posts on 3dnow, for Gamma Flux, were the reason I came to Anandtech Forums in the first place. I know what you and Jay mean about the bickering, which is part of the reason I'm now doing SETI more. But if this keeps up, I may wind up joining my college SETI team. 🙁

Sorry to see you go. 🙁

BTW, I believe there is at least one other German member of TA now. If he wants some of your celery (did you originate that term, too?) it might be easier to ship to him than to other members of this forum.

Magicman,

I wish you the best. Also sad to see you are leaving. I too miss how the BBS was. Please consider staying just a little longer to wave as we pass /. 😛

I joined so long ago because of you and others like you. Hang on just a little longer. 😉

Camm

Magicman, It was the forum atmosphere that actually got me interested in RC5 (and my dear friend dvch)!🙂 But I don't even know who you are after being here since June. If the forum has changed is that not expected? What have you done to maintain the part you find missing? Some special thing that has lost it's meaning? It didn't go away by itself.🙁

You have detached yourself maybe? What about your crackrack? This is the first I'm hearing of it. I have looked/read about everyones rack that has posted about it, how come nobody told me about yours? Where is your story? Got something to give? Us newbies love to hear about things that were part of the start. If you don't give to the realm then what do you expect to get?

I think if life (at TA) has changed for you you should look at who let that change happen,- you.

I'm going out on a limb here talking to somone I don't know at all (except from what's in this post), but I find it hard to be blamed for being in a mini-team and doing my thing. If you want to leave TA that's sad 🙁, but be honest and accept some of the loss as your fault. I would rather not see you go, and find out about your rack and some of the times you went through getting this all going.🙂 I just don't want to hear how my mini-team is making people leave.

Mike
