I'm kinda getting into this now :P

Ok my main two rigs are crunching folding @ home now (after lots of trial and error). I really like how these run invisible as a service.

I'm running a barton athlon xp 3000 on rig #1 and a applebred duron 1800 on rig #2.

Tommorow I was going to get two older rigs running.

It seems like work units take a real long time, even on my barton. I was curious what you all thought about these computers for folding@home and their practicality.

The first is a k6-2 400 with 64 megs of ram.

The other is a celeron 667 with 256 megs of ram.

Would these be worthwhile on the folding@home team vs the cost of running them?

Also, I've got win 98 for the k6-2 - but I was going to throw linux on the celeron, anyone got a real clear guide for installing f@h on ubuntu?

Well, some will say every little bit helps, and others will say it'd take too long to be feasibly helpful. It's up to you in the end.

If you have very cheap electricity rates, sure, then why now? Otherwise, sell them for whatever you can & pick up something special for yourself. 🙂

I don't even run my 700mhz celeron lappy because it takes a week to do a WU so I couldn't imagine what that k6-2 400 would do. I would go with Coquito's suggestion of selling them for whatever you can get and seeing what you can so for youself.

Welcome to F@H episodic.
We can use any help you can give us. Even if it takes a week to crunch a WU, it's worth it in the end. I would say if you have a small amount of machines, then even a lowly 667 will make a difference. The K6-2 400, would probably be pushing it though 🙁. I would still try it out and see how it works out for you.

The electricity rates here, in Tallahassee are such, that I have shut down my 1G athlons and 1.4G celeron 🙁 . My slowest cruncher is a 1.4 G AMD. He gets turned off anytime I do testing on new rigs.

In the end, it is up to how much you are willing to do to help out.
Good luck.
