I live in an apartment complex and I also work at nights (12am-9am). So I have to sleep during the day but for some reason today the apartment managers have hired a little construction crew to work in the apartment above me.

For the first hour I hear them slamming around upstairs ripping up old carpet, it sounds like 5 Frankenstein?s are walking around above me. The next two hours sounds like they are scrapping up the glue or something left behind by the old carpet, I don?t know how someone can make so much noise with a scrapper. Then for two hours they were laying the carpet down and hammering it into place!!! Two hours of 5 idiots hammering the floor of the apartment above you will make any man crazy!

Now for the past 45 minutes they have been hammering off the tile in the shower, I hear two loud ass sounds, one of the hammering of the tile, and the other of the tile smashing in the porcelain tub!

I am so pissed off right now, the apartment managers are going to get a freaking piece of my mind on Monday. They could have at least given me some kind of warning that I was going to be coming home to a construction zone!

Cliffs:
1. Construction going on above me.
2. Must sleep during the day.
3. Apartment managers must die.

Your best bet is to just go to a hotel to sleep.

Being nocturnal, I know how badly it sucks to try to sleep in a world that is geared for day workers.

So, would you please tell me why they should inform you?

When do you get construction to happen? During the night time?

You're the one who 'chose' to work at night, which means you have to accept that occasionally you're gonna have to deal with the fact that the inconvenience that the world works the opposite times as you.

Imagine if the roles were reversed, and you were up all night blasting music because thats your normal operating hours, I'm sure that would piss off your neighbors.

Unfortunately this time you have nothing to bitch about.

They could have simply left a note on my door saying this.

Dear Mr. X

Today a construction crew is going to be replacing the carpet in the apartment above yours. You may experience excessive amounts of noise during the times of XXX-XXX. We are sorry.

Signed,
Apartment Managers

I would have saw that note when I got home this morning, packed a change of clothes and went to my parents house and slept. I'm gonna have to do that anyway now but because of them being inconsiderate I've lost just about my whole nights sleep.

I would never blast my music at all hours of the night because I am considerate of my neighbors, and leaving a note would have been the considerate thing to do.

I worked shift work for a very long time so I Sympathize with you.

But a note would not have changed your options.

Night work will kill you.
