I'm installing a retail 1900+. Will I need thermal grease?

I have the thermal grease, but the HSF also has that pad on the bottom. Am I better off leaving the pad and ditching the grease, or using both, or getting rid of the pad in favor of the grease? I'm not going to use this computer for OCing, if that changes anyone's opinion.

Also, if I use the grease, how much should I spread on the bottom of the HSF?

Thanks,

For the warranty you might need to leave the pad on and it will work fine.

In sort of the same vein, what's the best way to install the temperature probe? Should it be touching the chip, or the HSF, or neither, or what? Thanks again for your help, I think I'm going to leave the pad on and keep the warranty, especially because the comp. isnt for me.

Be sure and take off the plastic tape that is covering the pad.

A flat one i assume? what about onboard motherboard temperature monitoring? Especially the new boards that use the internal diode within the cpu...those are scarry how accurate they are (it reads a much higher temp though too). Anyway though i use one of those flat amber collored ones, the little blue ones are too thick. Just tape it down so that the sensor is just resting up next to the core.
