I'm in the mood for a pistol. What should I go look at?

Thanks for all the replies. Definately gonna do some more research.
As for what I can handle...There hasnt been a handgun yet i cant fire one handed. Up to an including a 44 Magnum. Now, a 50 cal is a different story, and I wouldnt try it one handed. But, I'm comfortable shooting ANY pistol. I've shot a Glock 9mm, .357, 38 and 44 Magnum. The 44 is god aweful fun, but a bit impractical for any type of "tactical" work, and no way in hell would I want it in a shootout. Too much time to draw, too bulky for snapshots and too long to recover from recoil.

Might look into a 9 milli, 40 or 45.

🙂

(And I could shoot it sideways gangsta style, no problem 😉 )

Go 45. Seriously. Or the new S&W 50cal, gangsta style, but remember, in your will, I get that pistol!

guarantee you even a little peashooter will stop a raging psychopath. even if this intruder is wearing kevlar, i'm sure he won't just be able to shrug off a coupla bullets in the chest, no matter how small the caliber.
Absolutely. 100%.

Incorrect. Go with at least a .357.

i'm not a big gun fan, but if i were to buy myself a gun for self-defense/security purposes, it would probably be a semi-auto 9mm or .45, or maybe even smaller if i couldn't handle it. for those like myself who aren't out to put gaping holes in people, even a tiny little revolver will work decently. for home defense, i guarantee you even a little peashooter will stop a raging psychopath. even if this intruder is wearing kevlar, i'm sure he won't just be able to shrug off a coupla bullets in the chest, no matter how small the caliber.

watch "44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shootout" by FX. When 50+ cops with 9mm pistols could not stop 2 mad men with body armor. I think you should reconsider your comment. Scary part of the movie was it was real (1997 ring a bell).

If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I'd buy an H&K USP Expert in .45ACP. My friend has the USP tactical model and I love it. Extremely accurate pistol.

The only thing I don't like is the stupid "tactical" moniker.

Desert Eagle .50 generally precipitates balls into shrinking.

Along with their presence. 😀

As soon as I'm old enough I'm most definitely going to have one of those.. I've been in love with them since the day I saw them. Sure.. some may say it's a way for a man to make up for .. other things, but I can say that's honestly not my case.. I just think they are a complete work of art. Mmmm.. D-Eagle .5.... drooool

Glock 19 is a great compact pistol...If you're into a more heavier type, maybe a 1911 style gun by Para-Ordinance

*BOOM* Hmm, maybe a 40mmAP M203 round was a little excessive. 😛 Naaah. - M4H
There are no M203 rounds that are strictly AP, and even if there were, there wouldn't be a *BOOM*.

I have a Glock Model 23 with a pair of pre-ban clips. But the times are a-changin' so I keep an S&W .44 Mag in my truck and let the little lady keep the Glock. Both fine weapons.

I am looking at either a Sig P228 or a Springfield XD9 sub compact. The Sig is quite expensive, but very nice.

Yes there are AP rounds for the M 203 and they do go boom. There is a buckshot round. It is like a 40mm shotgun and I am guessing it will make a boom.
