i was just wondering, Since i have "bad" luck with HDs.
I have gone though 4 Western digial HDs, so i'm not going to buy that brand any more.
I am looking for a Very Relieable HD for my main drive.
Size of the drive between 10 and 18 GB.
IDE interface

Any suggestions on a relieable drive??

thanks

If you want reliability, IBM is your company. They make the most reliable hard drives a consumer can buy. I think I have 7 IBM drives in use around my house now.

I bought a 30gb ATA/100 IBM for $150 incl. shipping from Buy.com 3 weeks ago.

The IDE drives are VERY quiet. They use new 'glass platter' technology (the drive platters are actually glass!) which reduces noise, heat, and allows them to store even more data on less area. Pretty badass.

The 60gb ATA/66 IBM drive I have is so quiet I can barely hear it through the case...it's actually TOO quiet sometimes when I can't tell if my machine has crashed or is busy writing data. :p

If you run the drive at it's maximum it's not really quiet... Not loud either, but quiet - naah! I used an IBM 75 GXP on ATA33 before, and that was quiet, but now on my KT7 RAID (on RAID controller, but as single drive) you can definitely hear it work. Fast it definitely is.

BlueScreenVW: Your ATA/33 drive is not the same as the new drives; the new glass platter IBM drives really are quiet. I'm constantly amazed at how quiet mine are.

I do have an older ATA/66 drive (pre-glass platter) and it's a bit louder, so I know what you mean.

Liquidity: I meant that I was running it on ATA33 interface, not that the drive itself was ATA33. The drive has always been an IBM 75 GXP 7200 rpm (ATA100). :)
