Here's the deal - My company has sent me out of town for work. The jobsite is in New Brighton but my living arrangements have me staying in Cranberry (just off of I-76 and 19). Is there anything to do in the area. I'll be here for 6-8 weeks and will definitely need to relax at some point. Any good bars in the area?

Also, I plan on going to a Pirates game at PNC a couple of times. What else should I do when in the ballpark area?

Not much to do in cranberry, go down to pittsburgh. Also, there's a quaker state n lube there in cranberry, they have an all you can eat buffet for lunch. Go get some hot wings.

I live in Pittsburgh. Head down to the waterfront for some decent food and as for bars you should definitely go do to Southside and Station square. Definitely try to get to a Pirates game (even though they suck)

I've heard about Quaker Steak's buffet from co-workers. I told myself I was going to use the time away from home to "get back into shape". I guess one all-you-can-eat buffet wouldn't hurt!

I might go to the Pirates game on Sunday. Everyone has mentioned I go to either Station Square or the Strip while I'm there. Any place in particular??

I haven't made it into Pittsburgh yet, only the outlying areas. Cranberry looks like a newer suburb, with nothing but brand new chain restaurants and big-box stores. New Brighton looks a bit rough, but I haven't ventured into town much.

There are definitely some parts of the city that aren't great, but isn't that true for all cities. But looking at the Point from say Mount Washington is beautiful. Oh yeah OP, take the incline to the top of Mount Washington. There is a great view and some decent restaurants.

Haha was just up there today. Know the Cranberry Woods business complex? They had me in doing data entry for them. :p

Let's see near Cranberry there really isn't a whole lot. Bladerunners for ice skating if you're into that... you're also about 35 mins south of Grove City that's a big outlet mall (up I-79). Take a trip down into the city (I-79 south to where it splits into I-279 and I-79, take I-279 straight into downtown) and you can hit a bunch of stuff. Pirates game, Carnegie Science Center, the Carnegie Museums, history center. South Side has a lot of bars and clubs and the nightlife is fantastic if that's your thing. Lemme know if you need anymore advice.

Edit: You asked what's there to do around PNC park-- DEFINITELY the science center. Having worked there for 3.5 years, I gotta say it's definitely a great place to visit. Lots of unique stuff you won't see elsewhere. It's especially exciting for a first time visitor.

That view looks great. I'm definately putting that on the list of things to do. The skyline isn't quite as good as Chicago's, though;)

In addition to what's been mentioned, I'd also check out the Southside Works on E. Carson near the Hot Metal Bridge. I'd also get a street map of Pittsburgh if you are adventurous, in case you lose your way (if you're an AAA member, get one free at an AAA office). Grab a free Pittsburgh City Paper (www.pittsburghcitypaper.ws) which has tons of event listings. They're free and they probably have them at your hotel.

If you want a coffeehouse, Beehive on the South Side has free WiFi and it's much cooler than a Starbucks.

Skip the chain restaurants that you can go to anywhere and hit the locally-owned ones. Definitely try the Church Brew Works like vshah mentioned. The Grand Concourse restaurant in Station Square is a must for a nice dinner in a beautiful building. Also Primanti's in the Strip District (best time is late night for people-watching), Fatheads on E. Carson for tremendous sandwiches and many beer options, Del's in Bloomfield for Italian, Penn Brewery in Troy Hill for German and the great beer they brew right there.

The bar scene is primarily the South Side on E. Carson and Station Square. If you go to Station Square you have to ride the incline up to Mt. Washington. Very cool. A couple other things to do is see the National Aviary and the Andy Warhol Museum, both on the North Side. The John Heinz History Center is in the Strip District and if you like that kind of thing, is worth checking out if you're in that area.

Oram's Donuts in Beaver Falls is just a couple miles from New Brighton - best donuts and cinnamon rolls ever, and they are huge.

Yeah, Cranberry kind of sucks - its just a commercial shopping area for the most part. There isn't really anything unique or fun to do there, other than shop. Although I think it has one of the best movie theaters in Pittsburgh as its digital. Most of the others aren't - in fact, I'm not sure if any others are. So thats the best place to see a movie in my opinion! I can't even think of any really memorable restaurants in Cranberry either.

How old are you and what kind of interests do you have?

If you are really bored and need something to do, you can help me move! Heh. I'm moving out of my apartment and into a house and nobody is around to help me!

HA. A coworker just brought in Oram's Donuts for us today. Mmmmm, cinnamon rolls. Thanks for the heads up on the bars to check out. I'll be trying a few of those.

Now, anybody know of a bar in Cranberry for an after work beer. I haven't seen a bar there yet.

If you're willing to go just a little bit south to Wexford and the weather is nice, try the outdoor Cabana Bar at the Oxford Athletic Club. Head south on 19 and turn left at the big Sheetz gas station.

I'm not sure what theater you are referring to - all of the ones north of Pittsburgh (including Cranberry) suck. The decent theaters are Loews at the Waterfront or Destinta in Bridgeville.
