i know, its horrible! after custom building, water cooling and even niquid n2ing, im onto a dell.

why? its cheap! dell has a dual woodcrest system for less then i can build one, and its not like you can overclock dual cpu anyway... its just depressing.

anyone have a REALLY good reason i should get something else? im putting my own ram upgrades in and my own video card and hard drives, but for the rest?

Not sure aboit intel dual CPU but amd X2 can be overclocked very nicely.
But I do understand you. I hate shopping around and finding out I should I by a dell.
I still try to build my person computer but my GF, her kid, my dad, mom, and brother and I all got dells for. My sister got her HP but really the dell was better deal, but th HP case looked better (females). And the thing is i bought them all a different times. I even still have 3 old shuttle sin my house just sitting aorund becasue it was easier to get them a $300 delll then rebuild my old systems.

Best reason af all to get something else? That "something else" *isn't* a Dell.

well, guys, first of all its a DUAL DUAL CORE so 2 processors, which you cant overclock anyway.
dell high end systems are built quite well, our lab uses them and they are quite well built, the home era is the sucky ones.

its not a 32bit cpu, its a 64bit, they dont MAKE 32bit only cpu's anymore (on the xeon line anyway)

i used to be like you as well, however, something to remember is this.

its so much less expencive! if i was to build this myself it would be $3400 or so, dell sells it for $2200

besides, you cant really overclock dual cpu systems anyway

I have a lot of 650s.. they're pretty decent... not as bad as you think.. we're getting ready to unload these on ebay for faster machines... old xeon 3.2s

ooh, how much and what specs?

and thanks, the dell server line is actually pretty well built!

I should have a 690 shortly. I have been using a dual woodcrest 5150 in a 1U dell 1950 for testing purposes. Great machine, you'll be happy with your 690. If you do want to go SLI or 4 monitor, make sure you purchase the riser card from dell, you'll need it to run multiple PCIe video cards.

wana sell your U1 ^^

anyway, im glad you like it, i've got a few questions actually

would i be able to add a 2nd cpu later? or would i have to buy it from dell because of the heatsinks?

next, is the 1KW case worth it over the 750?

The system you mention, if configured with a Woodcrest CPU, is not available for immediate delivery. Here is what Dell says concerning availability.

Go away.

so again... what is it that you guys are doing with these computers that you need THAT much power? just wondering

My experience is just the opposite; I spent $1500 and got a better system than the equivalent Dell (which ran $3000).
